ugh I am freaking out! I brought both of my college transcripts to NYU and they still aren't a part of my file yet!!! Ridiculous! My HS transcript still isn't there! Now, I'm worried because even though I have a really good GPA I'm only from a CC here in the city, not Princeton :-(...

wmplax, it's great you have so much pride in NYU, but what you said is not always true. I'm a freshman in LSP, and I'm not satisfied and looking to transfer. My first choice is Cornell, because I want a rural/suburban atmosphere, they have a program I'm interested in, and tuition is just $20,000. If I don't get in, I will go to SUNY Binghamton or SUNY Geneseo.

You're lucky to be in Stern, but LSP is not good. I feel like 99% of what I learn could be summed up on Sparknotes.com. I have gotten straight A's on all my Midterms/Papers/Labs, and I barely do any work. I am not being challenged at all. In LSP, we don't even pick our own classes. 3/4 classes per semester are assigned. We have 1 elective a semester we get to pick, but even that is another required course - I took Life Science this semester and I'm taking African Studies next - not because I want to, but because I have to. I’m also commuting, and it takes up to 2.5 hours a day. I don’t see the point in paying so much money for an education I could otherwise get at half-price at a state college, and actually pick my classes. Most of my LSP classmates came here to party in the city.

NYU, especially Stern, is a brand name just like Harvard, just not as fancy of a brand name. Don’t get me wrong, NYU is a great school, and it’s nice you’re enjoying it, but it’s not for everyone. I hate the bureaucracy, I hate how NYU is a multi-million corporation that goes around demolishing landmarks to replace them with ugly buildings, I hate LSP. There are great things about NYU – the city for one, although that has nothing to do with the school and more to do with its location, but there are legitimate reasons why not everyone’s satisfied here.

firstly, cool name. secondly, I agree--LSP (or GSP or whatever permutation its on) tends to be a little less "complete" than other programs. I'm in Gallatin and really enjoy it from the standpoint that it is entirely a self-controlled system; hardly any requirements whatsoever such that you can design your own education. I don't necessarily have pride in NYU so much as I enjoy living in NYU, periodically going to class, and meeting some pretty cool kids.

Also, the commuting aspect also adds a dimension that is anything but accomodating. The combination of LSP/commuting seems to be pretty sucky...still, what year are you in LSP? The experience changes immensely from LSP programs to actual NYU programs...LSP doesn't strike me as the best representation of NYU, and plus, transfer students coming in are not eligible to place into LSP.

"I don't care if you're more prestigious than the Queen. I'd slap that woman, anyway."
"I'm so done with you, ben. So done." haha! that made my day for some reason!

stargazerlilies
i hope you get into cornell! good luck!

rcl268 & Love3qualsHate
i hope they get your file finished soon! hopefully it won't be that long!
i have A's at the moment, but i have to write 2 papers and i have not started them yet so who knows! but i'm pretty sure i'll have straight A's when finals are over with.

wmplax - I think LSP is a great program for people who love the Humanities but don't know what they want to major in. I'm a freshman, so you're right, it is hard for me to judge so early in the game.

I feel like my classes are too easy, and I know they're going to be just as easy next semester, because I'm going from Social Foundations I, Cultural Foundations I, Writing I to Social Foundations II, Cultural Foundations II, Writing II...I feel like I'm in HS, taking general classes I'm not interested in, with no freedom.

It is true that 2 yrs from now, I'll be in CAS, but I don't want to spend 2 years and lots of money in a program I don't like. I'm an Economics major and I'm not allowed to take Economics classes for another year! Oh and the reason I'm commuting 2.5 hrs a day isn't even because my parents can't afford NYU, they're well-off, they're just crazy religious nutbag control freaks who don't want me leaving home. Also want to get away from them :)

I hope prospective Transfer students don't get upset reading this - NYU is a great college, I came here for a reason. LSP is not a good representation of the college. Good luck to everyone!

If I don't get into NYU then I am STUCK at USD for anotehr semester! I couldn't EVEN IMAGINE life at USD for another semester. I HATE IT! =(
I hope I will be able to shout "I GOT INTO NYU!" very soon!

There classes are pretty "easy" and their ranking is like riding a roller coaster! Furthermore, USF doesn't have a prestigious broadcasting journalism program. They only offer a general communications program.

I actually had a very heated discussion about rankings with a friend yesterday...

Personally I think rankings do matter in some professions, but my friend adamantly argued that the education is more important. Either way, I want to go to NYU not for the ranking but because it's cool ;P
