THE BIG FUNDEMENTAL>>>ANY PHOENIX SUN, EVER...pretty funny your whole family was wearing nyu stuff

im going to move in "gradually" starting the 11th...meaning ill move some stuff in on the11th and over the next week or two move some more stuff in...

im going to go order some nyu stuff with my hanukkah $$$

talk to yall later

EastCo22221- where are you staying? water street? did they give you suggestions for loans?

i still haven't seen my financial aid yet and don't know where i am dorming and of course they are closed until jan. 5. thanks nyu! lol

my family is freaking out in kinda a bad way. they really screwed me over telling me so late.

i haven't booked my plan ticket yet, but is January 11th ok? i am planing on taking virgin airlines from lax to jfk. this is really very frustrating not knowing anything...

Michael, I have NO idea where im staying... hopefully water st. but i doubt it. They gave me a suggestion for a loan (I think) but IDK if I'll need more or less? I'm so confused. haha

EastCo22221, i want water street but i doubt i will get it too. i got my acceptance package monday and sent the deposit the same day, so they haven't even looked at my housing because they are on break. i am sure i am going to get the dreaded 26th street! YouTube - Angry Alex 26th Street the guy in the video got 26th street and was not happy!

it's very weird to think we (duffle, love, EastCo22221 and everyone else who is going) that we will be in new york, like soon! hasn't this all happened so fast!?! anyway, i am stressing out big time!

The videos are funny! lol

YouTube - Destination: 26th Street

but yeah 2 weeks (~16 days) we'll be in manhattan :D

how do we get to the admissions forums?
why do some ppl get to pre register?
where do we send our final transcripts in order to get the credits transferred over?
does everyone have orientation the 15 and 16?
thanks!!!

hmm, i forgot about sending the final transcript!!!

the admissions forums for nyu are only open when the offices are open (stupid) so they are closed until the 5th or so me thinks

yay, we're moving in on the 11th!
i got greenwich hotel as housing.

since our dorms are further away than other dorms from the general campus, does anyone plan on bringing a bike or anything?

and did anyone get a notice that they have a required reading to do before they start the semester? i guess i'll be getting the book tomorrow...

did anyone start taking out loans yet? i called someone (forgot who because they kept transferring me over to another person) who told me that we are to pay for our tuition 5 days after we register. i register on the 15th or 16th so i guess my tuition is due when we start classes...

for those who want to claim to be independent:
i told my parents i'll be paying for it (with loans in my name) but NYU suggested me to take out a federal PLUS loan which can only be taken out by a parent or legal guardian which means my parents have to be the borrower. if i were to take out private loans instead, i would still need my parents to be the borrower until i graduate - at which time, the loans would transfer over to be in my name... or at least that's what i've read (my mind's a bit fuzzy).
and i read that on the FAFSA forum (or was it the NYU financial aid policies...?) you can't claim to be independent unless you can prove abuse/abandonment and to claim independency, you have to cut all ties to your family... which sounds crazy!

i've been applying to scholarships as well...
these are some of the websites i've been checking out:

Free College Scholarships | Registration

it's a website where you log in and you read articles and blogs about college (tips, advice, scholarships, credit cards, etc)... and they give you codes you can submit for points and those points can be used to be entered into scholarships - no essays or anything unlike other scholarship websites.

if anyone does register, can you put my email as the person who referred you? you get points by referring your friends too! my email is dang.sophia@gmail.com

there's also this website: CollegeDegreeFund.com - Helping Students Pay for College
you basically set up a website where you tell a little bit about yourself, your education, and why you need help in sponsoring your education. it's a bit of a reach (to beg for money) but it's worth a try...

good luck!

seirfelats- your in steinhardt too!? the book we have to read looks interesting, i need to go get it though. maybe i will see you at the orientation!

i still don't know where i am staying and what my financial aid looks like! hopefully jan. 5th or 6th i will find out. that sucks about the loans because i was planning on taking them a out myself. ugh! more stress is added to my life! haha

i booked my plane ticket though. me and Love3qualsHate are actually on the same flight!

hopefully i will see all you guys soon!

Wait MichaelW- I have a question for you. How do you take loans out yourself, I thought you usually need a co-signer. I know that if I get admitted I would have to take loans out myself cause my parents wont co-sign with me.

nyu44- yeah that is the problem i am having, my parents won't co-sign a loan! i will keep you posted on how i am going to do this. i haven't gotten my financial aid yet, so when that comes i will for sure tell you. i will probably have to beg my parents to co-sign something!

I understand, its the worst. They tell me I shouldnt go to such an expensive school, but I just wont listen. I just love nyc too much. Yeah def. keep me posted.

michael, keep me posted about taking loans yourself too hahaha

only steinhardt students have to read the book?!
i'll be getting it today then...

i hope we won't be tested on it during orientation
i read on the orientation schedule list, we have some placement examS

book? I never received any information about a book. I hope it's not for CAS students :D
where did it tell you guys about a book?

Love3qualsHate- I think only Steinhardt students have to read it. They mailed us a packet talking about orientation and how all Steinhardt students have to take a New Student Seminar. The book is called The Emperor's Children.

seirfelats- i will keep you posted on the loans! lol I hope we are not tested on the book, i don't think we are. It sucks that everyone, all transfers, have to take the Expository Writing Examination even if they have taken English classes. I hate tests!

i hope this thread gets to a thousand posts!!!

yeah that'd be cool!

11 Days until NY!!!

MichaelW- Will you keep me posted on how the classes at steinhardt are? I'm applying for the Media, Culture and Communication major and I'm interested to see how you like the classes and the major!
