Admissions for class of 2021

Pitt had over 30,000 applications last year, not sure how many have applied so far this year, but I assume it will take a while to process those.

@hailtopitt1787

Are you allowed to tell us how many complete applications you have received, to date?

@STEM2017, I actually don’t know, to be honest. What I do know is that once your application is complete (with SRAR/Transcript, test scores, application fee) then it can take about four weeks for it to go through Admissions Committee and for the decision to be sent out.

Hope that helps!

@hailtopitt1787 Thank you!

@hailtopitt1787 When does financial aid / scholarship information come out? To receive merit scholarships, do we need to have the FAFSA filled out? Also, when, if at all, will we hear back about invitations for the GAP medical program?

Thanks in advance!

@ahs2017, The Scholarship Committee will begin meeting in October. They meet weekly and send out decisions on a rolling basis. You do not need to fill out a FAFSA to be considered for scholarships. You should fill out a FAFSA if you would like to receive financial aid. We recommend that students file the FAFSA by March 1 at the latest in order to maximize your financial aid award. Financial Aid packages will start to be sent out in the early spring. Students who have been selected to apply for the Medicine GAP will be notified by January.

Thanks for the response! Have a great day!

I applied to Pitt back in July a few weeks after the application was released and still haven’t heard back yet. When can I expect to hear back? Thanks

By the way I visited in the summer and the admissions people said to apply in the summer so I did and yeah, its been a while. Should I be concerned?

@hailtopitt1787
This is probably a stupid question, but how will I know if I have been accepted. My program status on the Pitt PS Mobile app says admitted but my application status on the website is simply complete. What does this info mean? Thanks so much!

@averagewhiteguy, The Admissions Committee just started reviewing applications in the last few weeks. There shouldn’t be any reason to worry. If you have questions about the status of your specific applicant account, you are always welcome to check on PS Mobile (the student applicant portal) or contact our office: 412-624-7488 or oafa@pitt.edu.

@logananan, Admitted students receive an email and then a letter.

Most likely the delay between ‘Admitted’ and email/letter is that Admitted status is manually entered based on the Admissions decision as things happen - let’s say daily, and then a process is run that generates the email and physical letter and that might be weekly, picking up any new status changes.

They have to generate the cute video for each admitted student :slight_smile:

I am fortunate that my dad has dependent tuition reimbursment from his employer which will cover %100 of Pitt’s tuition. Since financial aid is not an issue is that factored in the admission process or is it viewed as favorable in the decision process in any way?

Is it Tuition Exchange? If it is - it’s not guaranteed and highly competitive.

@h2pitt, Whether or not an applicant has financial need is not part of admissions consideration.

Best of luck!

@hailtopitt1787 My Daughter just got her ACT scores - she had not previously taken the ACT. She has already been admitted based on her SAT Scores. If she sends her ACT score will it be considered in regards to Merit aid if it’s deemed better than her SAT score?

@Dolemite, I would call and let them know you are sending ACT score, it can’t hurt.

@hailtopitt1787 I received the paper mail to apply to Pitt’s Med GAP program early this week but still haven’t received an email from the med school for the secondary application. Should I email admissions, or just wait?

Thanks!

@ahs2017 - My DS emailed about same thing and was told that med school may take some time to send the email. They are required to contact all by November 15th and applications are due by December 15th.
