Any Acceptees yet?

LA children behave, this is your Mama over the bay in Mobilay - sounds like LA is going to do well this year, DD is a Saint, and she is headed to Dartmouth, ED. (I don't want to say anymore, because I haven't spoken with her, and you may be able to figure out who she is) Congrats on Columbia, that is wonderful. Bird, I'm a little confused, did you apply ED or are you waiting for RD? Your stats are impressive, particularly SAT IIs - that trips up kids down here, the system is not set up for it. Foley High must be way proud. How large is Foley now? What APs do they offer?

Regular decision...

There are about 1200 kids at Foley. The opening of Gulf Shores HS pulled a lot of people out (about 33% from what I gather). And the only APs they offer are Calc AB, US History, Government/Econ (which really only prepares for the government test), English 11 (lang/comp) and English 12 (lit/comp).

DH teaches over here at a public (again I don't want to name names, but not Murphy) that's about the same slate of APs. For many years because of being under court order in the deseg case, they couldn't offer APs (literally, as I had understood it, had to get court permission to offer an new AP class), so they semi-taught them, and allowed kids to sit for the exams. SPS has the same APs, plus AP Bio (which I'm surprised you don't have), AP Euro, AP Physics and AP Art. AP Chem has been added just this year. Baldwin County is getting big enough to start an IB program, although trasnportation may be issue, it is a big place. You guys are home early, are you taking exams? How much more lost school time do you have to make up?

This was the regular first-day-out-of-school day. Ivan threw everything out of whack so we're taking exams the first week we get back. As you can guess, that's not exactly a fan favorite, although I don't have to worry about them. Exemptions from exams are handy.

I think we're staying an extra week at the end of school, but for whatever reason, seniors are getting out at the scheduled time. All of the juniors, sophomores and freshmen will have to stay an additional week, but not seniors.

Ouch! Exams after! Thank heaven Mobile County didn't do that - I think my husband would have committed mass murder;). I have some good friends whose daughters go to Washington in P'cola - they were out a month, and I'm not sure yet how it will all be made up - their graduation is delayed, even though I think the seniors, like you, are getting out a week or 2 before everyone else.
Good luck to both of you, I'll let DD know we discovered some other LA folks.

Very cool, thanks.

Princeton '09. sweet...

...I have the exact same GPA as you...3.9722 UW and 1 B in Algebra I (9th grade).....ahhh

Frustrating, isn't it? One B in my second semester of the ninth grade.... My teacher was so terrible, only one or two people managed A's in that class.

This is cangel's DD. The Saint. I'm sure that people from outside LA think my mom's being really really smug or something. "Aw, my D is soooo perfect. In fact, the pope's going to canonize her any time now. Despite the fact that's she's not Catholic." It is a funny mascot. Really strikes fear into the hearts of men. No. Wait... maybe it doesn't. Anyway, good luck to all of my Gulf Coast compatriots!
