Ask an FSU student about freshman year

@Dnerd
Wildwood, the dorm you posted, does not. Gilchrist has locks both on the inside and the outside of the bathroom door. There may be other dorms that do.

That’s weird. What purpose does a lock serve if it has another lock on the opposite side? It doesn’t prevent anyone from getting in…

That’s just a really horrible design >_<

Actually, is that the one for double with baths or regular doubles? I picked a double with bath, so would my roommate and I be the only ones sharing the bathroom in that situation?

I’m nearly certain all the renovated dorms on the East side have locks on the bathrooms. I live in Cawthon, and you can lock your bathroom door from the outside. In any case, all dorms come with lockable desks to lock anything valuable up. If you want, you can also buy a computer lock, and lock it to your desk or bed. I got one for less than 20 bucks at Office Depot.

Is Salley’s floorplan really like this? [The Florida State University - University Housing](http://www.housing.fsu.edu/housing/ungrad/salfloor.html)

The description says that two students share a bedroom, and 4 share a toilet and common study area, but by this picture it looks like each student gets their own room…anyone been to Salley that can confirm this?

That says “*This is a typical floor plan for this residence hall.”

so I guess it depends on what type of room you’re in. That’s why I’m still waiting for someone to tell me what a “double with bath” looks like since the Housing Term List doesn’t have it on there.

Well, on the floorplan, it states that the only room types are “2 students share a bedroom, 4 students share a bathroom and common study area.” Yet, in the picture, each student has their own room…

each room is showing bunkbeds, so it is 2 students to a bedroom

Ahh, I didn’t see the bunkbeds, haha. I only looked at the plan that was bird’s eye view >.<
Thanks :D

Do you have to attend orientation? I was thinking about just scheduling a tour sometime in April. Will they really hold your scheduling if you don’t go? It just seems like a waste to pay 90 dollars to stay in the dorms and get dinner.

Yes you have to attend orientation

Sohini100, you can attend one in August, right before the classes actually begin. I live overseas and can’t attend the June ones, so I called and they said they have one in August…so if that works for you better, like it does for me, maybe you can go to that one!

When do you start registering for your classes?

During the last day of orientation you are brought to register for classes

So… does anyone actually know what the difference between a “Double” and a “Double with bath” is?

I think Double is where you share a bathroom with another double, and Double with bath is each double having it’s own bath (shared with 2 people, instead of 4).

That’s what I’m thinking and hoping too. Ah, I guess there’s no need to stress over anything until June anyway.

during orientation, where do we stay?

In the past students undergoing Orientation stayed in Salley Hall.

Looks like [Wildwood Hall](http://www.housing.fsu.edu/housing/ungrad/wildwood.html) is now where students stay: [The Florida State University](http://nsfp.fsu.edu/faq.html)

Now when i was reading about it i wasnt quite sure if the parents go or if it is just the students?
