thanks guys ok so lets see what happens today because i don’t think I can take another weekend of nothing we all need some good news

doubledel & wasdcmom, we attended the accepted students tour last Sat, during the opening presentation, they put up a stat saying 27,000 applicants with 3800 accepted. Thats roughly 14% overall. And as Mwallenmd said, certain majors can be even less. Delawareans do get a percentage of slots automatically, so that acceptance rate will likely be higher.

Sull29:
The 3800 is the approximate size of the freshman class every year. UD accepts 10,000-12,000 students each year to end up with that 3800 (usually it ends up at close to 4000). Many students accepted choose to go elsewhere for a wide variety of reasons. Nursing itself gets over 1500 applications per year. Around 300 are accepted resulting in a freshman nursing class of around 135. Approximately 85-90 of these students are from OOS.

I agree with @Mwallenmd as to the stats she posted. As much as I love UD, admissions is a part of a “business” and like every other college they like to make the numbers look attractive so you feel like once you are accepted it’s a “really big deal” Not that it’s not a big deal but you know what I mean. I think the class of 2016 had the largest applicant pool to date for UD, (just under 27,000) Last years was about a 1,000 less and not sure what this years numbers are yet. But the sounds of 27,000 and the true number of students that will attend certainly amp us all up during those tours as to how “big” of a deal it is to get in. A bunch of schools do this like I said, not just UD. All national stats show that this years total number of students applying to college is a bit smaller than in previous years due to the population stats at this age. I feel like EVERYONE my kid knows has applied to UD this year so I am curious to see the final application numbers for the school this year.

@lefty1 I think im just gonna throw in the towel i really can’t do it any more I feel terrible for my D everywhere she goes someone is shoving it her face how they got back their acceptance weeks ago from UD they keep asking her why hers is taking so long she came home in tears this morning on her break doesn’t even want to go back i can’t blame her at least if she knew one way or another she could move on 20 weeks on a 8 -12 week turn around is insane its not like she the bottom of the barrel and the worse thing is she getting the same from another school so );

@miesha5… I wish I could wave a wand and make this better! ugh what is taking so long? like you said before, this is torture at this point! Your poor daughter! This is so rough on her. Her best answer to anyone who asks is that her program is VERY competitive and it’s not the average application. I am hoping with my whole heart you get your answer today! hugs… <3

thanks sorry for being debbie downer its just been such a long process

@miesha5 Have you talked directly to the admissions person responsible for your state on the phone or even email? Not the online chat…I did and asked what was taking so long in a nice way. Also I feel you deserve to have some sort of communication when going on week 20!! Express that this is her TOP choice. We just saw today the financial aide package ( if you can even call it that) and are horribly disappointed with a big fat zero in GRANTS!! We will have 2 in college and are in need, and our estimated family contribution shows it. Gee thanks UDEL for sharing your 1,000,000,000 dollar endowment!! Do they think they are being generous to offer the governments’ loans? It states that the average need based grant is 8000 and my D is the average UDEL student that they just accepted…I just don’t get it!!

I just check my Ds portal for at least the fifth time today. Still no change. I have a sinking suspicion that that 2-3 week email didn’t mean squat. However I feel like I’m gonna flip out if we don’t hear by next week. We applied mid-Oct so we are at 19+ weeks and counting…in state…and other students with my daughters exact same stats and ECs have already been accepted to Nursing!?! I can feel the blood pressure rising!

hi guys @iwanttoscream yes i did speak to the in state rep about a month ago I’m not really sure it got me anywhere although she was really nice and she did tell me to hang in there but really what does that mean hang in there for what ?she did explain that my D MAJOR WAS EXTREMLY COMPETETIVE AND thats was the issue was had her SAT been higher there wouldn’t have been a problem so they went to her second choice which apparently is just as hard … who knows so we sit here and wait @ DE momma I am with you I feel like I might lose it if we do not hear something real soon :-&

hey did you guys notice there is no online chat anymore it doesn’t pop up

Hi Everyone. Another day, no portal change, no yellow letter in the mailbox.

Couple of things I have noticed so you don’t interpret as a yes or no: I have the same message when I click on the FASFA. However, if you click on every item in that list (SAT scores, recommendation letters, etc) - which I discovered last night – they ALL have a standard message. I therefore, don’t think the “standard” clause when you click on FASFA means anything even tho it has the words “we’ve determined you have financial need and you will receive blah blah with your admissions offer”…

I don’t even know what to say anymore… but I REALLY APPRECIATE HAVING THIS GROUP AS A SOUNDING BOARD. Thank you all!

:(( [-( >:P X_X %-(

@Fauster @Mwallenmd Are you saying that an offer of acceptance is not held up until it goes through financial aid? Meaning: can they/do they offer acceptance and then provide financial aid at a later point, if eligible? Or - if they do, in fact, determine eligibility for aid, is the “silent” acceptance sent to financial aid - and therefore, no notification is received until all of that has been finalized? I submitted FASFA Jan 5.

My worst fears have been confirmed. My daughters portal changed and she was admitted to UD…NOT to Nursing but to University Studies. Devastation doesn’t begin to describe it, she is inconsolable

@DEmomma can’t she transfer into nursing later please tell her not to be upset she will get into the nursing program next year she can take her core classes now and then transfer over its done all the time omg its gonna be ok poor kid :x

It is Friday and this is the day the UD portal typicall changes and for my S it changed indeed. Finally, he was accepted and to his program of choice, visual art!! So excited and happy for him. We love UD as my oldest D is there. He has loads of choices so we will see where this ends up. UD is on the top of the list!

Did everyone feel the earth shake around 3:00 when my jaw hit the ground??? Upon checking for the millionth time today, I thought I was hallucinating!!! She was accepted!!! Sitting here trying to keep myself from telling her. Want her to experience the excitement of finding out. @DEmomma–I feel for you. As @miesha5 mentioned there should be a way for her to transfer in I would think. I hope all those still waiting hear soon! I now need a big glass of wine to ponder how we are going to swing 2 college tuitions next year :-?

congrats so happy for you guys @bzlizy @dogsrthebest and @DEmomma such a relief have a great weekend you deserve it

@miesha5 thanks for the congrats. Hope you hear something soon as well!!
