Towers and Warren have bathrooms per floor. So you don’t get a personal sink, toilet, shower, etc in your room. Hojo has bathrooms in the rooms so if you want a private bathroom that badly, go for Hojo. While Warren is across the street from CAS, Hojo and Towers are about a block away so it’s a 5-10 minute walk. I don’t see why you’d suffer socially from not living in Warren. You’ll have plenty of classmates to make friends with. My best friend I met in my bio lab. She lived in a brownstone too. I also met a few people on the first day of school. I actually made two good friends that day and am still friends with them.

Wow, so many people desperately want their own bathrooms… It’s really not as bad as you may think.

It’ll be worse than sharing with your floor if you don’t clean it. I hope you guys asking for a private bathroom realize that bathtubs need to be cleaned regularly or they become incredibly gross.

i’m totally fine with public bathrooms, it’s just nice to have a sink in your room to brush your teeth and wash your face before early classes

do you guys know which dorms have the best wifi coverage and which dorms have the worst?

HoJo has none. Warren has a good one. The rest I don’t know.

If you live in Warren they’ll tell you there’s no wifi, but that is a LIE, they only do that to make you buy their stupid cable at Barnes&Noble. The wifi works just fine.

Wow Hanita. They make you pay 40k for tuition, yet need to skim some more money from students. They told us on the tour that there is no wifi at Warren, and that an ethernet cable is required for hook ups. So I guess that is false?

Yep, I don’t use the cable and I get full signal strength in my room, and also at the dining hall and study halls. What sucks is that you can’t get a router so if you have a wireless printer it won’t work.

Nickel and Hanita

Would you guys mind posting a list of dorms in order of YOUR preference, followed by a short description of why you chose it put it 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Also, could you post the one reason why you don’t like a specific dorm? It could be just one sentence if you like.

Thanks! All this info is priceless for us freshmen

You actually can get wifi in Hojo if you go up to the study lounges. I also got it on the 3rd floor since the 1st floor has a lounge with wifi. But I would suggest an ethernet cord anyway since the wireless (unless you’re in the lounge) can be unstable or some people don’t get it. I’ve only lived in Hojo so I can’t really tell you if I’ve liked living in another dorm. The only thing I don’t like about Hojo is that it doesn’t have a dining hall but I can just walk to any dining hall I want to eat in.

In Warren, WiFi is really hit/miss. I can pick it up in my room too but the internet runs a lot faster with the ethernet plugged in the wall. I’d buy one to be safe, but you could always wait until you get here. They sell them at City Convenience (basically downstairs) during the first week of school.

Snake1234, the bathroom in each Warren hallway is ridiculously close to the rooms. Going over there to wash your face/brush your teeth takes less than 10 seconds for me. It really won’t be an issue. There are about five sinks in the bathroom too so one’s always free.

Samsung, I would really still pick Warren if I were a freshman again because of the proximity to everything in my life here and freshman-oriented environment. Leaving 5-10 minutes before a class (I’m in CAS) is the best. It’s central to everything else too, so even going to West/East isn’t too terrible either way. My first month here gave the best introduction to BU with a close-knit floor. I love the common rooms, the people, the view from my window, and the whole environment. While I wouldn’t stay PAST freshman year, I cannot envision myself having spent my freshman year anywhere else. Sure, Warren has flaws as a large dorm too. Privacy is limited sometimes. But as a freshman dorm, it’s really great.

I wouldn’t have chosen West because it’s out of the way and lacks common rooms. I wouldn’t have picked Towers because it’s already SOMEWHAT quiet in Warren; I don’t particularly need it too much quieter as a freshman. I also like the co-ed floor deal here. I wouldn’t have picked any of the other dorms because I wanted to immerse myself with other freshmen rather than people who already have formed their social circles this year.

wifi:“HoJo has none.”

oh my freaking god, that ruins THAT plan -_-

what are the other dorms with private bathrooms [that also get wifi in the rooms]? & are they AT ALL close to the CAS buildings?

this is so frustrating.

Hojo does have Wifi. But it’s random if you can get it or not in the rooms. When I lived in the 3rd floor I got pretty good wireless. Now that I live on the 7th floor I get okay. But if you’re ever in desperate need of wireless, the first floor and 8th floor lounges all have fast wireless since most of the time (except for finals and midterms) the lounges are empty. All rooms have ethernet and cable.

I got no wifi in friend’s room on the 5th floor in HoJo.

It’s random like I said. Some rooms can get it, some can’t. I used to get it on the 3rd floor in my room, but it’s worst up here in the 7th floor. Although my roommate’s boyfriend can get on the wireless in my room better than I can.

yes, but i don’t want to place my bets on ‘random’ when i am pretty much 100% a room - studier/paper-writer.

That’s what the ethernet is for. All dorm rooms have ethernet.

…okay, this sounds really dumb, but i thought you were spelling internet wrong D: i have literally never heard of that word before, heh…

cough i know nothing about technology. is that like wifi?

No, it’s a cable that goes from the wall to your laptop and it connects you to the internet. So you can only be online in the radius of the legth of your cable.

OH. haha, gotcha. does the room actually come with a cable? : P
