My son left for Cornell on Sunday with a duffle bag, his golf clubs and fishing gear leaving me-is neurotic mom-to gather his clothes and take them to him on the 18th.
I am not sure how big his closet is going to be (Court-Kay-Bauer), what type of clothes to take etc.

He is an athlete, but off the field he definately dresses nicely and I wasn't sure what the students dress like at Cornell/Ithaca. We have only been there in the winter and on one cold spring day so it was hard to tell.

He would kill me for writing this, but thanks for the information.
No one mentioned sweat clothes that are designer-then all basis are covered :)

where what makes you happy. if you are only happy in designer jeans and shirts, then by all means wear them. if you are fine saving some money and getting less expensive brands, then by all means buy them.

for example, im completely ok spending large amounts of money on shoes and jackets yet for regular shirts etc i dont see the point. do what makes you happy :)

I have no problem spending $200 on a pair of jeans, as long as they look good. I just think it's silly when people pay for the brand solely for its name, irrespective of how they look wearing said jeans.

Designer jeans fit me better and they are a softer more comfortable material. A lot of cheaper ones are too short and curvy for me and they get kind of rough and scratchy. I'm glad that everyone doesnt have to wear certain jeans though, it will definitely be a nice change from high school.

Yeah...I wear Frankie B's mostly because I have no behind so most other brands don't fit properly. Still...I hate shelling out the money for them.

I think Cornell is somewhat fashionable....Girls tend to get dressed up when they go out (as in nice top/dress, designer jeans, heels). Guys, to a lesser extent. IDK about most people but i always notice the girls that are on point/rippin it. haha (as my friends and I would say)

Most kids at CU dress pretty conservatively (not flashy) The most prominent brands I see on campus are 7 jeans, Rock & Republic, North Face, Ralph Lauren, Vineyard Vines, True Religion, diesel, and there are plenty more that i cant think of

what kind of boots would people suggest getting for the winter? I don't like Uggs because they make your feet look big, but rubber boots make it impossible to match anything. Any helpful links out there?

the rubber boots, like wellingtons, are only good beofre it gets cold...then your feet will freeze.

there are plenty of flat soled slouchy boots available at all price levels - and many have rubber non-skid soles - if you get suede boots waterproof them about 3 times and you will be good to go! my d said her feet were never cold.

My daughter has a ski jacket from Patagonia. She said nothing gets through. I also bought her a few pair of boots from Canada last year, not very functional, but great for Ithaca weather.

Guys who wear peacoats instantly set them apart from the other 4,000 guys who wear the exact same NorthFace jacket.

Somebody mentioned fit a few posts ago. Higher end clothes always fit better (especially for somebody like me). They're more expensive in part because of a much smaller production ring compared to the mega stores which need to produce thousands of pairs of jeans that need to be big enough to fit millions of people.
