Got into UCSD with a 1000 SAT

Please......
It should not matter what situation you are in.......
If you can't do the work, you can't do the work. Anyone who gets a 1000 out of 2400 cannot do the work.

Does she have any physical/mental disabilities (no offense), poverty or extremely extenuating hardships?

Even if all of the above applied, how would this help her get in. Those things help if your a little below the norm with your scores, grades, and extras.

My 13-year-old brother did better on the SAT than that (Duke TS). That score is amazing, and getting into UCSD is also amazing (no offense). Congrats.

Err..whoa...so what area is her high school in?

I guess I can believe that she got in on that score...based purely on the fact that she's from a low income area...but really, that's a low SAT score. I don't know if she'll survive the first year there even if she is extremely diligent...As for the argument that the SAT isn't fair...they really only test you on the simpler concepts of Algebra II, geometry, etc...and she does know that UCSD has placement exams right?? If she does poorly on the SATs, how is she going to get through those? You need to pass them in order to fulfill certain major requirements.

I highly doubt the validity of this

I see no extenuating circumstances. her financial situ should affect her aid not make such an exception to her score. Even if she moved, 8 years is more than enoyugh and thats not an excuse. A 380 is math should be the cause for igniting that pplicants file. The national average is 513, which I think is ridiculously low as SAT math is what I did in like the 7th grade (a lot of it). A 380 shows that the foundatios are not weak, they6 are non-existant..

I have seen 1200's and 1100's (old SAT) get into Harvard and all, which is far tougher than UCSD... but thats vause they had some awesome 4.0 UW GPA and kickass EC's.

SAT II Asian Language w/ Listening: 700, Chemistry:450,US History: 400
with a 1000 in SAT and a 3.4 with no EC's is crazy

I cant believe that she was admitted due to 'extenuating' circumstances, sounds like the adcoms are doing charity work

Dont want to sound mean, but this is a true shocker. Is she the brand ambassador of Addidas? "Impossible is nothing"

o'rly?
o'rly owl doesn't question chuck norris
chuck norris questions o'rly owl
this is buncha crap. chuck norris would smite her like he smited conan o'brien,
i have better stats than her and i got admitted only to winter quarter and to my 6th least fav choice revelle which is also crap, ucsd must really hate me but what ucsd really hates is chuck norris, cause chuck norris and leeroy jenkins are my hero in the amazing world of warcraft
jk, she didnt get in,

what school system has an avg of 950 new scale on the sats. My school is uber retarded, but most people score in the 13-1400s out of 2400.
I think its awesome she got in, hope she does well.

i dont think its awesome bcuz its not fair to other kids who probably have same disability, hardships, but strived much harder, with sweat conviction ,blood, brain cells, and lack of sleep(shortened life span), and even more time but didnt get in , what would chuck norris say to that? and if ur school is scoring in the 1300-1400 range out of 2400 i would tell u that ur school is not cut out for the UC, maybe more compatible with the cal states, ytea the uc's are popular, but not everyone is fit for it, or they wouldnt have the twenty some odd cal states

lol I know my schools not suitable for ucs, considering we're out of state, nj. Its more vocational than it is academic but thats another story.

I don't know what her situation is, so I can't judge her, I am no place to do that. But if she got in with a 1000/2400, to a respectable school, they must have saw something special in her. Yeah Im a little biased, cause stas wise I've always been the underdog but still got into awesome top schools in the country. Im sure they had there reasons for accepting her, that we don't know about. So point in critizing, wish her the best of luck.

this is just disappointing. i know everyone is saying stuff like ucsd is just trying to be well-rounded and they see something special in this girl and they want to give her a chance blah blah blah. thats fine. i commend uc's for helping those in need. but good god the kid should show that he/she is motivated and serious about school!! i don't think a 3.2 gpa is bad but it's not "ucsd standard". that school is so popular and "competetive" and they say their mean gpa is like a 3.9 or something. and a 1000 sat? i don't like to judge ppl's intelligence based on sat's b/c i hate them myslef but this score is definately not uc material. ya her family is low income and her parents never had education but this girl herself is not very school oriented. she could do much better. what has the uc system come down to? so what- my family has to be poor, i have to go to a bad high school, and i have to do get mediocre grades and below average test scores to get into ucsd??? madness if you ask me. whatever...im going to uc davis. screw ucla and ucsd

There must be something about her that impressed the adcoms. We'll never know what it was, but it must've been something really impressive.

She is Chuck Norris's daughter.

or maybe we're getting some baloney.

haha quit the chucknorris bashing! but im totally 100% enamoured

you can't get in with a 1000 on the new SAT.
you aren't eligible to apply to the UC's with a score that low.

furthermore, it looks like she didn't take the MATH 2C SAT2, which is required. therefore- this isn't true.

No specific subject test is required for UCs. As long as you have two subject tests from two different areas, you're fine. She didn't have to take the Math IIC. I have a friend that got into UCSD and only took SAT II Biology & SAT II US History.

3.30 – 3.34 1942
3.35 – 3.39 1912
3.40 – 3.44 1882
3.45 & above 1858

Her total is 1000 + 400 + 450 which is 1850 which is too low. Sorry OP this is a crock of BS... smart move by sarajhansen.. (Y)

And who/why/when/where/which/what/how is Chuck Norris? (heard the name sumplace.. cant place it.. and what with the UC's)

Chuck Norris is the action movie star. It's a popular usage among jokes now after the O'Brien poked fun at him on an episode of Late Night with Conan O'Brien. SNL did a sketch on him as well.

ahh thanks.... what is SNL now?
