Got into UCSD with a 1000 SAT

"Her total is 1000 + 400 + 450 which is 1850 which is too low. Sorry OP this is a crock of BS... smart move by sarajhansen.. (Y)"

Her total is 1000 + 700 + 450 = 2150

It doesn't matter which Subject Tests she took for the UC, since they automatically took the highest two scores from two tests in different subject area. So her 700 on the Asian Language counts, even though it is her native language.

"There must be something about her that impressed the adcoms. We'll never know what it was, but it must've been something really impressive."

I tried to figure it out. However, I DO NOT think that she has any special talents or achievements, giving the fact that I helped to double check her app before she submitted it.

Today, she asked me about UCSD and I pointed out it may not be the best school for her, given the rigor of academics there. Personally, I don't think she will make it if she chooses to go to UCSD.

By the way, she is from San Francisco and she lives in Chinatown.

The fact that she got admitted really upsets two UCSD rejectees from my high school, since both of them have a GPA around 4.1 and an SAT around 1600.

I am not making this up, and I am totally SHOCKED when I first heard of this news. I know this is the most bizarre thing I have ever, and I appreciate the fact that that there are not 30 posts accusing me being a troll. All I want to say is ANYTHING could happen. To people with high-stats, don’t be so disappointed if you are rejected from your top choice schools, but someone with lower-stats from your school got in. To people with relatively low-stats, don’t lose hope because you always have a chance as long as you submit the application.

Not trying to mess thins up, but for those of you who are either interested or suspicious about the authencity of this post, I am providing the stats for other UCSD acceptees from my high school.

my bad- the MATH 2 C rule was before the new SAT.
but i still think this is fake.

How could a native speaker get only a 700 on the SATII ?

????
I moved here 2 years ago, my class rank is 39/480, GPA 4.1, I am not Asian but from foreign country, I know 3 languages, SAT 1700, SATII 800 on mathII and 640 on Physics, I'll take all AP science classes in my school by the end of senior year. No Cs or Ds in any semester. Senior year all As (gpa during only senior year is 4.67). Did sports for two years, all year long, and I got denied from UCSD, that's ***
P.S.: why Asian take SATII Asian? That's like easy 750-800, cheaters

I'm just surprised no one has commented on the "Asian Language" SAT II...

I wonder how many non-native speakers take the Chinese or Korean or any other Asian language SAT IIs (if there are more). Are they even really that big of a factor in admissions anymore if so many native speakers take them and get 800s?

cy_sunset-
Where is this school of yours?

....

She was probably a power ranger

Or Chuck Norris

that made my life

I thought low 300's is obtainable by getting about two questions right and leaving rest blank? (Since 200 is negative something raw score?)

"Where is this school of yours?"

My school is in the Bay Area. Sorry, that's the most information I can provide in order to keep certain privacy (like the names of the acceptee).

"I thought low 300's is obtainable by getting about two questions right and leaving rest blank? (Since 200 is negative something raw score?)"

But she completed the whole test, I believe. It is pathetic that she scored only 300ish. Poor girl.

"How could a native speaker get only a 700 on the SATII ?"

In the case of the SAT II Chinese with Listening, it tests Mandarin Chinese. Bbut most new immigrants speak Cantonese and their Mandarin is just NOT GOOD.

"P.S.: why Asian take SATII Asian? That's like easy 750-800, cheaters"

"I wonder how many non-native speakers take the Chinese or Korean or any other Asian language SAT IIs (if there are more). Are they even really that big of a factor in admissions anymore if so many native speakers take them and get 800s?"

It is cheating. But I once talked with one UC Berkeley adcom, he said it is fine for a native speaker to take the SAT II Language Test since UC calculates points for each part of an application. The higher your test score, the hgiher your academic index will be.

I believe that most test takers for Asian Language SAT IIS are native speakers, because the score distribution curve is just screwed. For example, the mean for SAT II Chinese is like 760ish, the mean for SAT Ii Korean is like 740ish. It is so sad that an 800 on those tests will give you a percentile around 50th.

Dang, i should've applied for ucsd. At least there's always grad school.

is she impoverished, did she write an essay about her transition into America? Her "bad" essay in your eyes, could have been concieved differently by the admissions lady. And what is the point of posting this?

She got like total of 600-700 on Writing+Critical Readoing on SATI, I doubt her essay is great.

At first I thought you meant 1000 combined for just CR and M, which is a big stretch for UCSD but still somewhat reasonable.

However, 1000 combined on the new SAT? That's Cal State - Los Angeles material...

Heavenwood-

lol

It's extremely offensive that this person was admitted (if this is actually true which I highly doubt), effectively preventing someone who's actually qualified from attending UCSD.

"However, 1000 combined on the new SAT? That's Cal State - Los Angeles material..."

Not even CSU will like the scores. Sounds more like CC material..
