Their catalog said they sent students to Harvard, Oxford, Princeton etc..
That is another reason I like IUB...

What are you wanting to major in?

ok, porkey, they wont reject you for not sending in the essay!, just keep an eye for that email from IUB (JUB) , they will themselves ask you for your activities in the Gap year if they feel they want to know it at all!.

btw.. the students who got the scholarship.. what country are they from??

I'll be going for computer engineering

What country???

i know one guy from india who got it.

the full scholarship- at least one of em was awarded to a freshman from Pakistan. BTW he had 2400 in his SAT, and a perfect high school result.

Okay

does IUB look more into numbers or something else while making admission decisions????...

does anyone know the exact decision date for round 1?? and how do they send their decisions??

End of Jan.
Last year decisions were sent via email.

oh ok....so still a month or so to go....

current IUB students...could you please put up some of your stats and something that u think got u into IUB or JUB rather....In that way it would easier for me and other ppl applying to IUB this year to get a hint as to what all is generally required to get into JUB

c'mon u applied already.. getting obsessed shail619?

Well I was okay until a guy said he got reject from JUB and accepted to Brown... especially considering the alternative schools for me...

i wouldn't have been obsessed....had it not been for my ED deferral...I was shell shocked.....

^^^i feel v sorry to hear dat "...I was shell shocked....."

Naaa...it was for a second or two...after that...gone...back to life...back to apps and the compass needle changed from NY to Bremen...

ok people long time no comments and now i think i cant stay on quiet on this anymore..

IUB is a great institution and well a wonderful place to be in . Its a relatively new university so not tht well heard of as any Ivy league but well dont be mistaken by the fame.. its really nt a real predictor of college gudness

the academic standards here are by far among the very best i wud still insist.. for i can give sum strong arguments in this regard

IUB was recently ranked in by daad among all german universities and is among the few to have got all good rank categories.( daad ranks in gud , medium , bad and so on) .

The science curriculum is very gud.. the present CS course is identical to CMU which happens to be the rank 1 in cs so far for years now . And well i dont mean that the course is copied or something but well IUB cs has been at many times compared to the cs at CMU by the professors..

we have professors who are joint professors at cmu and iub both and well iub has a direct exchange program with cmu which is not a matter of joke fr any two set of universities..

The financial aid is really gud. All universities in the world except the top 5 give you a Huge loan component in the financial aid package as like the same here. Now the important part .. IUB is among the only some 10 universities in the world open to international students which has NEEDBLIND financial aid .. that means admission decision is made irrespective o the financial standing .. ( the only others in this league are HYPMW and a couple of others )

As of scholarship well i received a scholarship yes, but well i shud say they are rare and well awarded in very less numbers..

YOU DONT NEED TO HAVE EXCEPTIONAL SAT SCORES TO GET TO ANY UNIVERSITY IN THE WORLD.. and as is the case with IUB ( Jacobs University from 2007) .. SATs are only a small component of your application package and doesnt determine your overall credibility .. and i didnt have perfect sat scores nor those amazingly high 2350+ sat 1 to get these ..

i choose IUB over many us university even after admission coz of multiple reasons but well i am happy at my choice..

the person who got accepted by brown but rejected by IUB maybe just not IUB type.. and well its quite plausible to understand that ... The last few years IUB has gone through a very rigorous admission system and well as of last i heard the following are some admission data you may be happy to know:

Sat1 Verbal Average : 690
sat1 Maths Average: 760

Admission rate effective overall was arnd ~21-25% last yr ..

there is no country based quota so if you are gud you are in and well unlike in us university where admission partially also underlying ur country of origin and also restates their quota policy, IUB has been admitting deserving students quite well so far ...

ofcourse with that i dont mean its as tough or hard to get into IUB as brown ( atleast not till now i accept by whole open heart) but well you have to understand that decisions cant be thus compared.. and well kept on the same table

then moreover i believe germany is much more of a wonderful place then USA for cultural reasons and well overall feel of it..

IUB is a highly international university with as of today 8 countries represented by the 75% of its international population which is hugeee compared to any US univ u will hear of...
And believe me its wonderful to be in such a setting... the campus is beautiful .. ( you may ask me for pics) .. and the challenge is great .. its certainly an intellectually demanding place where one is tested on all possible grounds right since day one..

so either you are gud for it or you not made for this type of university.. there is no gud or bad involved here..

As of post IUB life, the last yrs batch is now in among few to mention Harvard , stanford, JHU, Cambridge ( 4) , Oxford(3) , LSE, UCL , Princeton , Yale and CMU ..

Hope that clears quite lot of your confusions..

feel free to post questions..

SM

That was a great post!!!

but as far as scholarships... what kind of stats do you need?
