I really need to know if you think I’d be able to get in!

I am a freshman at Emerson and as much as this is a great school, it has always been my dream to go to NYU and the majors here just aren’t really working for what I want to do and I have fallen in love with NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study.

Anyway, as for my stats:

HS:
GPA: 3.6 (2 AP classes, rest were honors)
Rank: 44/244 (top 18% of a very competitive class)
SAT: 1720 (I recently retook these, I haven’t gotten my scores back yet, but through preparation and practice tests I was able to reach 1900+)
EC: Dance for 13 years (captain my last year), Drama Club all 4 years of HS (Executive Board Secretary my last year), Senior Class Treasurer, Broadcast and Print Journalism Teams 2 years
I also had a job my senior year working in a day care at a local gym.

College:
GPA: we don’t know yet because our semester hasn’t ended, but I have A’s in all my classes
EC: Dance, Copyeditor & Writer for Your Magazine, Eligible for a Sorority next semester, Drama

I’m planning on also taking the ACTs and I’m having my high school AP English teacher help me with my essays which I’ve heard should be unique for Gallatin.

I would really love your input because I really want to go there!

@mel325 so I just saw on you are applying for the Fall. I would say you have a pretty good chance, especially coming from Emerson, which in my opinion is like a mini version of NYU. For Gallatin, someone told me that SAT scores aren’t too heavily weighted (still important of course) but what they like to see is that you are a exiting/ eccentric person. So they’ll look a lot into your essay and EC’s. Of course your GPA and course rigor will be important because NYU has a standard they need to keep up, but people go to Gallatin to major in random stuff like miming, so like I said before they’ll look a lot more into your EC’s/essay to see that you’re a unique individual.

I’d say overall you’ll have a great chance getting in, my only suggestion would be that you really need to emphasize that you’re a unique individual and really go into depth as to how you will take full potential of the freedom Gallatin has to offer.

Finally accepted into CAS today. FA will be the deal breaker so we’ll see how that goes.

For those who didn’t receive their decisions yet: stay positive and remain patient! I guess this shows that receiving a decision this late isn’t a definite indication of being rejected.

Hello! I just read this entire thread for like the past hour it was almost like reading a suspense novel or something lol I can’t believe so many of you were accepted!!! You guys make it seem easy to get into NYU but I’m sure it’s not lol. Anyway I was wondering if you thought me taking a semester off would negatively impact my application?
I’m applying to NYU CAS for fall 2014 (majoring in journalism) and this semester (fall 2013) is the one I took off so I will be attending school again next semester. I have a 3.8 GPA (it will only go higher at this point) and I have a lot of writing experience in addition to scoring an editor position at the newspaper at my school for next semester. I also have a ton of volunteer hours at a local cat shelter but I’m worried the semester off will make me look like a slacker or something lol. Do you think I should have hope??
Also I attend a community college in Texas.
Congratulations again to everyone who was accepted! I envy you!

to be honest I thought that my application was very good – close to flawless (even including letter from nyu undergrad professor of my major) and now I am getting skeptical…

I called them and once again, they said they will be sending decisions throughout the month of december. It will not pass December, though. So expect a notification by the 31st. Stay hopeful, bro.

Classes begin on January 20th. And yes, those accepted will have some serious problems with housing and course registration and availability. International students, in particular, are more screwed because they will only have 20 days to apply for a visa. But as they said, you gotta wait. All in all, good luck you too!

Spring 2014 classes begin January 27th. January term classes begin the 20th…

It’s also important to note, as a transfer student, that you cannot register for classes until your current semester transcript has been received.
