Yes I also received one…I guess they are sending to everyone regardless of whether you’ve already submitted or not
Did you guys get a confirmation email when you sent it in? I never got one, but I also know that Columbia’s admissions office is quite unresponsive…
They never respond to emails it seems like.
What should I write in my LOCI if I have no significant improvement in my honors and etc, Please help, I am desperate!!! I didn’t apply to any safety school, so this is my last chance.
@futureleader14 not everyone has significant updates. Focus on what you do have; your passion for Columbia. Why you want to attend Columbia, what you’ll bring to the university and why you’re a good fit.
Guys, the final enrollment deadline is approaching. I hope that there are enough spots to accommodate a significant portion of the wait list. Any one sent a second statement?
anyone know when they tell us if they will indeed be accepting any students off the waitlist, or if their class is full?
If possible, u should contact the office 1 or 2 days after may 1. They disclose their position. Let us know as well
I sent my letter yesterday, but does anyone know if they’ll take updates between now and June 30?
Super nervous about this…any predictions guys?
So one of my friends just received an email from UChicago, and it said that the school won’t admit students from waitlist this year, but they will offer a place for my friend next year (class of 2022). And my friend doesn’t need to reapply as long as he takes a gap year. Also, I heard Cornell did the same thing… this is not a good sign guys.
@HarryZ527 that is making me nervous. But I know that Columbia accepted nearly 40 less students this year. If yield is steady, we can expect acceptances as they used the waitlist in 2016 as well. Did someone confirm with the admissions office regarding the enrollment statistics?
@HarryZ527 I don’t think there’s a correlation between waitlists at UChicago/Cornell and Columbia…we just have to wait and see. Columbia usually releases around the 15th though, give or take a few days. But yeah does anybody have any info regarding Columbia’s current yield?
hard to predict @crowningflowers since they don’t release waitlist stats… anecdotally I know about 20 people that turned down Columbia for another school (Stanford, Princeton, and Harvard mostly) although there’ll have to be a lot more than that before they turn to the waitlist lol
@HarryZ527 I’m not sure how that relates to Columbia… At all. If anything, higher yields at equivalent schools could help us, haha. But I’m wondering if Columbia does a similar thing… I know personally I would take that offer and get job/internship in the meantime. Certainly better than not going at all! (Although maybe not depending on where else you were accepted)
@blairebabe I was on the Dartmouth waitlist and got released today because they had an unexpectedly high yield…so nervous about Columbia’s waitlist but they don’t even release yield stats so there’s nothing we can do but wait…knowing 20 anecdotally is still quite a number haha! I did check the Columbia Facebook page and the numbers seem to be much lower than previous years so maybe that means something! (wishful thinking)
@crowningflowers oh wow, yeah there’s about 200 less in the FB group this year… Maybe we’re looking too much into it but if that means something we may have a chance? Last year’s FB had 1,852 people, this year only has 1,645… According to College Board 1,420 kids enrolled (432 kids less than FB) so if that’s similar this year they’d enroll 1,213… On Columbia’s website it says the Class of 2020 has 1,428 (so 8 students accepted from the waitlist last year, I guess?) so they’d presumably accept 215 from the waitlist???
Haha I’m definitely over thinking this. After all, FB doesn’t really mean anything… But I hope by some miracle I’m right!
@blairebabe A lot of people in the 2021 group are current students who are there to help new students or people who’ve been accepted to Columbia but are going somewhere else, but it does seem weird how it’s such a low number compared to previous years. Probably doesn’t mean anything but I can’t help looking into it this wait is torture :(( hope you’re right. also this thread has been awfully quiet maybe there aren’t that many people pursuing the waitlist haha.
I called the admissions office today. The woman who picked up immediately said Yes when i asked if they would use the waitlist; when I asked how many she would not disclose a number.
Well that’s good news! Did you ask anything else? @grr2021
Oh hot diggity dog so ready to FINALLY TAKE THIS REJECTION THAT I’VE WAITED FOR A MONTH LONGER
