*Official Fall 2013 UC Transfer CHANCE thread*

@ HopingToXfer: That is where the advantage of UCLA and Cal’s “holistic” approach comes into play. Maybe your GPA is pretty good but no match for 3.8+ applicants, than that is where your EC’s, work experience etc will help you a lot. UCLA and Cal like well-rounded people. A person with a 4.0 GPA but has spent their life doing nothing but studying may be turned down in order to accept a student with maybe a 3.6ish GPA but has lots of EC’s, work experience etc.

At UCLA orientation they said that the reviewers burn through hundreds of apps a day and they generally all look the same. However, if there is something that they like or something stands out they will let 2 other reviewers look at it and if they both agree than you are in!

I did not have the best gpa(3.5). But with non-stop work experience since I was 16(I’m 25 now), overcoming obstacles in life, a 50+ hour work week to take care of my family(since my dad got sick and could no longer do so) while taking night classes at CC and studying into the wee hours of the morning just to wake up a few hours later to do it all over was probably just enough to tip my app in my favor.

So yeah. Grades = good. But they’re not everything.

welpppp. well all we can do now is wait… it feels like high school all over again.

I just have a question since I plan to apply next year. I have overcome many obstacles in life, but the essay prompts are the same every year, no? So I guess I’m asking how I would reflect that in my personal statement.

Thanks, and good luck to everyone c;

@bellsie: Yes the prompts are the same. What do you mean how you would reflect it in your essay?

The prompts are something like; 1) what is your intended major and why, 2) what is something you have accomplished in life/something about yourself.

Here’s a chart of transferable AP credit and how much units each counts for: http://■■■■■■■.com/a52nz5c

I don’t think anyone saw my first post maybe ill have better luck this time.

Chance me please

I applied to UCLA, CAL, SDSU

I am a student at a CCC
I will have 60 units at the end of the spring semester.
I will have my igetc complete.
All pre-reqs complete

I am a Geography major (which must be very far from impacted)
Major GPA: 4.00
GPA: 3.857 (only 2 B’s)
I don’t know if my high school Spanish grades will be considered in my GPA, if so then my GPA is lower.

EC
My EC’s is very limited. I played football in highschool, and i have had a job the whole time I’ve attended community college, and a job for a year in highschool.

Not in honors, no tap either

Thanks

@neneman54
i think you’ll get in easily. dont worry about your ecs. as long as you had a job and didnt sit on the couch at home all day youre good. just curious though. was your job related to your major?

@umairk27
Thanks for the response. I did have a job but it was only for a few hours a week. No my job does not really relate to my major (maybe very vaguely) it was in the mortgage industry, and my high school job was in a restaurant. So you think that ill get into both LA and Berkeley?

does ucla only take honors students?

@ neneman54; Your stats are good and obviously nothing is guaranteed but a 3.8 for geology is pretty over kill so you shouldn’t worry too much. I got into all the UC’s except for Berkeley and I know people who got into Berkeley but not UCLA. Out of high school my brother got accepted to UCSD and UCI and rejected from UCSB, so he went to ccc and transferred to UCLA. Yeah it’s strange. Hell, UCLA accepted me right off the bat and I got waitlisted for UCSD and UCI so there are definitely unseen factors as to why stuff like that happens.

@ umairk27: honors students only? really? LOL

sorry you can’t read that at all. [Profile of Admitted Transfer Students, Fall 2012 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof12.htm)

@brandorojas: Basically your California “residency” has no affect on your admission. This may only affect your tuition cost. You are still considered an out of stat transfer which has a 10% admit rate. However, the avg gpa admitted was 3.77 and the fact that philosophy is not impacted, I’d say you have a pretty good chance.

alright, i’ve been stalking this website for over a year and i’m very bored right now so let’s see what happen.
