*Official Fall 2013 UC Transfer CHANCE thread*

@tcccom Let’s hope for the best.
After I found the 2012 average GPA for those 2 schools, I was pretty gloomy for days.

I want to get the answer earlier whether it is good or bad.

^ what’s the stats for those two schools? Do you have a link? I am also interested in getting the stats to know the situations a little bit better.

tcccom i dont think ucsd economics is impacted so hopefully that’s good to hear

[UC Irvine Feature: Welcome Week 2012](http://www.uci.edu/features/2012/09/feature_welcomeweek_120924.html)

For UCI, you need to read it. it is in the bottom of the article.

<a href=“Undergraduate Statistics”>Undergraduate Statistics;

Check school type. Number of tag students dropped significantly after they raise gpa cut-off from 3.0 to 3.5. Seems like a good sign at least…

I’m chancing this for my friend, whom I really really hope can get into a good UC again and get her life back together.

She initially started out at UCI but due to personal reasons, ended up withdrawing. She went straight to CC, stayed there for three years, and is finally reapplying this cycle. She’s looking to get into pharmacy school.

GPA: ~3.5
Extracurriculars/work: Some hospital volunteering, private tutoring in math, previous work as a parking attendant, , CPhT certification, currently works as a pharmacy technician
Prereqs: Not sure about this one, but to my knowledge, everything has already been completed.
TAG: None
Intended Major: Chemistry (was studying chemical engineering back at UCI)

I know that she has spent a lot of time on the essay trying to prove that she really wants to get back into school after all that had happened previously. Her grades definitely show an upward trend.

What are her chances for the following schools?

UCI
UCD
UCB
UCLA
UCSD
CSUs?

Thanks!

Hey guys, I am pretty much freaking out on whether or not I am going to get into UCLA because I didn’t do too well Fall 2012. I had a 3.7 gpa overall but than last fall I got my first W in calc based physics (which is not even required for my major) and I got my first C ever in chemistry. I ended up finishing my other two classes with B’s. I am a biology major and now have an overall gpa of 3.4. I am also in Phi Theta Kappa and I have taken honor classes. I also finished a pre dental program at UCLA this past month and I did mention it. I am taking the first part of Ochem, physiology, and zoology this semester along with art 100 and anthropology.
Any feedback would be great

@ Mbark21: Biology is impacted at UCLA and the avg GPA admitted for transfers last year was 3.74.

Am I the only one checking this thread every day hoping that checking it will make the decisions come faster?

lol… We have less than a month left. The decisions will come sooner than later.

@RandPaul

yes same here bro! haha

More than a month! Haha. Darn April decisions.

@emprex my cc counselor told me about this. Even though UCSD does not directly point out whether Econ is impacted or not, we can still find out it’s impacted through the stats. It has been much more difficult to get into UCSD’s econ program if we cannot get a tag or have a 3.7 above.

@zooloo thanks for sharing these useful datas! You are right. Now the tag rate is only less than 20%. This may be a good sign for those who want to transfer to UCSD. However, in the meantime, I doubt that more and more applicants tagged to UC Davis, SB, or Irvine. We don’t know every applicant’s preference so perhaps it would be much more competitive among these mid-tiers, which may not be a good sign.

UC-UC Transfer, applying from UCSC
Applying to UC Davis and UC San Diego
Major: Physics (not impacted at either schools)
UC GPA: 3.17
All prereqs done except for two (C Programming and Diff Equations)
GEs: Not completed (but not required/checked either)

How do you guys think I’ll do?

@cinnabon1234
It will be tough for you to get into UCSD. Check the transfer students’ stats in 2012. Average was 3.5
It all depends on majors but still 3.17 is way below the average.
However, it seems you have a shot at UCD.
Anyway, if you get in to any schools you applied to, just let us know in “officail UCxx acceptance thread”
Always, hope for the best!!!

@ Philos24: Philosophy is definitely not impacted but I would imagine Cal’s avg GPA admitted to be much higher than a 3.2. Poli sci is impacted at UCLA and the avg GPA admitted was a 3.78 last year. Although TAP may give you a bit more weight but probably not enough weight. Consider this, my brother transferred to UCLA in 2011, he was TAP certified w/ a 3.78 GPA(psychology) and still did not get his major, he got accepted as his alternate though. I’m not sure whether polisci is impacted at the other UC’s but the GPA requirements will definitely be lower. However, if polisci is impacted at the other campuses than the required GPA could be significantly higher. But the bad news is that other than Cal and UCLA, they don’t read your PS so your explanation in your PS will not be put into consideration. You probably should have applied to UCR and UCM just as a safety. BUT, good news is that the other UC campuses besides Cal and UCLA DO put your “alternate” into consideration. Good luck though!

@cinnabon1234: I don’t think you’re chances at UCSD are very high since CCC applicants will be priority over UC-to-UC transfers, not to mention that the accepted applicants have a GPA of 3.5 w/TAG or higher. However, Davis may be a possibility. Good luck!
