EC:
-Volunteer since college >600 hours (3 different places at worked there over a year)
-Piano 17 years
-Violin 7 years
-Voice 3 years
-Love drawing, worked part-time as illustrator since high school (works sold oversea); raised 5000USD for the Japan earthquake from selling my works
-Research Internship in both summers while in college, researchers in my lab would be happy to write me a great reference :relaxed:
-sophomore year >25 hours of research through out the whole year

I studied for SAT after I came here and scored 2200s. Originally I wanted to apply for some private schools that might have better resources but I don’t think I have a shoot for those schools.

Chance me ! Thankyou :3

@darkhawk08: You look like you are in a good position. However, your intended major, IGETC status, Prereq status is also important to know. Having certain GE requirements uncompleted before the Spring could cost you everything regardless of your GPA.

@ ryanbentley:3.24 should be good for UCR, Cal Poly, SC and SB. However, I don’t know if History is impacted at those campuses. Do you know if History is one of those provisional majors? As in “Pre-History” where you have to maintain a certain GPA until officialy being able to declare yourself as a History major? I assume that all majors with the “pre” status are impacted. When I was accepted to UCSB last year I was declared as “Pre-Communications” and had to maintain a 3.0 GPA my first quarter had I decided to attend SB. The campuses you applied to unfortunately do not read your personal statement. I wish the best of luck to you!

@ Toxicology: You have a solid chance at those schools.

CCC Transfer 2013 to UCLA, UCI

Poli Sci Major

4.0 GPA Major GPA (all As and A+s except for a B+ in calculus, screw maths :frowning:)
3.67 Non-Major GPA (Transcripts from before my military time almost 10 years ago brought down my Current 3.93)
Will be a junior transfer with 65 semester units completed (Completed all in a single year, just started school again 1/2012)
Junior Transfer 2013
At time of transfer=
Complete IGETC
Completed all Pre-reqs

EC:
All my EC are military related, I was medically retired for injuries sustained while serving. As soon as active duty time ended I started school and have taken as many classes as possible each semester.

@UCBoundVet: Political Science is impacted at UCLA with an accepted avg GPA of 3.7+. However your military service will greatly weigh in your favor and your GPA is not far off anyhow. I have a few friends who transferred to UCLA after the Marine Corps and military service really helps. Did you use Academic Renewal for your previous poor grades? It’s probably too late now but with Academic Renewal you could have erased those old F’s and D’s.

@iDizzle I wish I was able to do something about it but it is too late now. I did not even realize I had transcripts from the first school (10 years ago). After I signed up for this site and started reading posts about people omitting previous transcripts and the possible consequences, I contacted the old school to find out what the damage was. So long story short, I had to notify all the schools I applied to that my GPA was not 3.9+ it was 3.67 (After I replace the Grades that I can).

Would someone chance me?

Civil/Environmental Engineering, ChemE (alternate), and environmental science (alternate)
3.75 cumm GPA (I haven’t calculated major GPA so don’t ask)
Out of state CC transfer applicant for UCI, UCLA, UCR, and UCSD (and a slew of Cal States as backup)
IGETC complete
Missing pre-req’s (switched from Architecture major):
Chem, Into to E, Statics, Diff Eq

California Veteran (so I’m a CA resident)
Mom, first gen citizen, first gen student
Countless volunteer hours is my only EC; there isn’t much time for a stay-at-home-parent to do EC’s
I was invited to join our PTK but missed the application deadline (oops)

I’ve heard back from CSUF and CSULB (accepted) and CSULA (not, credit transfer issue).

I’ve also been contacted by UCR about adding additional info to my application. Is that a good thing? Are they seriously considering me?

TIA

@ UCBoundVet: Yes, its unfortunate but I’m sure you’ll be alright. When I went back to community college in 2009 I was under the impression that I would be starting off with a “Clean slate” as well. However, no such thing. It was actually by luck and chance(overheard some random people talking about it) that I found out that an existing transcript would affect the current GPA and that’s when I found out about academic renewal. Because I did not know about it, I ended up taking a class that I had an existing C in a couple years ago but got an A the second time I took it. Technically that would have been considered an “illegal” retake. Luckily I was never questioned about it or anything by the campuses that accepted me.

@ PurrOnYou: Again, being a veteran helps your chances and a 3.7 is competitive. However, although you are a CA resident, being an OOS transfer does hurt your chances in terms of priority and likely hood of credits transferring to the UC system. But again, with a 3.7gpa and military service you should feel pretty confident, OOS or not.

Thanks iDizzle. I most likely won’t get into UCLA, UCI is a big maybe since I opted for the Bio sequence instead of the Chem sequence to fulfill my science requirement for Arch., and I’m not sure how competitive the Env. Engineering program at UCSD is, that’s probably a no. I’m ok with UCR. All of the reviews I’ve read of their engineering program have had nothing but great things to say about the campus, professors, environment.

@iDizzle thank you so much! as far as I know, those campuses do not have “pre history” major; it’s just “history”. another q for you or anyone else who can answer
would the UCs look at my GPA ending at fall (3.19) or winter (3.24) ? like I said before, I reported my winter session grade before the January 31st TAU deadline.

You must be trolling. With stats like those, you can get in any university you want dude.
Unless of course, you’re trolling.

@Purr I think UCLA will be very hard since they are strict on pre-reqs.
CE transfer here too.

@ ryanbentley: I don’t know for sure but I had always assumed that post-winter semester GPA is considered.

So when people say major gpa do they mean stuff like pre reqs? because for criminology at uci ive aced everything psych lol

@HopingToXfer Yeah, I know. When people ask what schools I’m hoping to be admitted to I talk about UCLA being an “Act of God.” LOLOLOL

UCR and UCI are my top choices. Their family housing (I have 2 kids) is legit in terms of bang for the buck and I don’t plan on working while in school. I just can’t handle the school-workload plus work with a family.

@PurrOnYou I treat it same way Hahha. Would be disappointing if an individual was being cocky about getting UCLA and ended up being rejected.

Can someone chance me please  my info is on page 29, thanks in advance!

@ Econlife: You should have a decent chance. UCLA’s avg admitted GPA is a 3.92 so I assume Cal is a bit higher and a bit lower for the other UC’s.

Hi guys,
I wanted to know what you guys think are my chances on transferring to UCLA as a Molecular Cell Developmental Biology major.
Last year’s average GPA accepted was a 3.67, the average applied was a 3.46 and the average enrolled was a 3.61.

My stats: 3.67 with all prereqs done
IGETC completed
Lots of extracurriculars such as working part time, volunteering, and presenting research. My personal statements I hope were good, they got my message across.

Anyways, what do you think are my chances? Last year 161 people applied and 77 got in, so almost 50%. But my gpa is RIGHT on the average, so I’m worried. Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Thanks idizzle. A question for everyone, would you rather have the average admitted gpa for your major and WITHOUT TAP or a slightly lower gpa than the average WITH TAP? which is a better position?
