*Official Fall 2013 UC Transfer CHANCE thread*

Okay I just got an email from admissions review for “UC” (I applied to UCLA and UCSD). They asked an extremely specific question. They said that I had listed on my application that I “had” attended the University of Paris Sorbonne, but that I had failed to list the courses I had taken. They wanted me to list them and provide a copy of the transcript. They provided me with a link that opened a message form and an attachments upload. So the deal is I am going to the Sorbonne THIS summer, for four weeks; I haven’t already taken the class, I’m going to take the class. It says so on my application, so they must have mis-read it. I am taking the language course at the Sorbonne for four weeks in June. I replied in the space provided, and I uploaded a copy of my preregistration form. I must admit I was shaking while doing it, since the email said they needed the information right away.

What does it all mean? I’ve never heard of someone getting an email like this?

@eyespy: Personal emails from the UC campuses asking to clarify information is quite common so don’t freak out too much. It happens usually when dealing with OOS and international schools. I had seen it happen last year with other forums members/applicants who HAD attended or PLANNED to attend OOS/International schools.

Yeah, it may have just been a misunderstanding. Just give them what they want in a timely fashion and you should be fine. LOL. I feel like we are talking about negotiating with terrorists. LOL!

okay @iDizzle good to know. At least they’re looking at my application, right? :slight_smile: I of course want to read something into the timing of it, and the fact that they said they needed my response in five days or my application would be delayed or canceled. Maybe I’ll be in the first batch of UCSD decisions (acceptances)? :slight_smile:

Trying to do Statistics homework and it is hard to concentrate…

California Community College Transfer

Applied to: UCB UCLA UCD UCSD

Major: Political Science
Overall GPA: 3.93
Major GPA: 4.0

IGETC: Will be completed by Spring 2013

Major Prereqs: Completed for berkeley, ucla, and sd but didn’t do one for davis

Will have 61 transferable units completed by spring 2013.

I work part time, had a good amount of extracurriculars, and have a lot of volunteer working.

Does anyone know how not completing one of the major pre-reqs for davis will effect me? it’s not required or an impacted major but I know it still would have helped to complete it.

Also does anyone know if the grades we got in high school foreign language effect our gpa or if we just care they completed them.

Thanks

@eyespy Yep I’m in the middle of speech. Plus a few of my major reqs aren’t done for their specific school. I figured this would go against me and it did.

I have all pre reqs done for UC’s though, plus a 4.0 in my major. Tbh I thought UCSB would be easier to get into than SDSU based on what I have done/not done

@gopackgo555 If you have all the pre-reqs for the UC’s plus that GPA I just don’t see you having a problem.

Chance Me, Please :)

I dropped (1) class last semester, resulting in a “W.” The class was not a requirement by any of the UC’s (Discrete Math). I dropped simply because of a timing issue. Interestingly enough, it is a required class for SDSU, in which I received an acceptance from them last week.

Not sure how many of my credits will transfer.

Was VP of the student body at FIDM as well as in Student Government in High School.

I am 25 years old and have been working 60 hours a week for my family business since I was 17. I am a high level executive with 40 employees that report directly to me. My statements were pretty good in my opinion. I described my journey to sobriety and how I am controlling my depression and anxiety through natural alternative ways now including deep breathing and yoga (registered Yoga Instructor with 200hr training completed). I was also on and off of school due to the company expansion/personal issues/helping family. The 2 Cs were from my first year of college when I was 16. I have overcome many obstacles in my life including juggling a business with 120 retail locations as well as a full course load of classes. I also informed them how passionate I am about my major and how I plan on taking everything I learn and applying it back into our business to ensure sustainable approaches to make sure we lesson our carbon footprint.

I just cannot take this wait any longer! I have become obsessive at this point and constantly check my email/discussion boards/school sites to see if there are any updates. My dream would be to get into Berkeley but at this point I just want to know where I will be ending up. The counselors at my community colleges are worthless and were of no help, I missed the TAG deadline and hope that will not negatively affect my application.

What are my chances at this point? Will my FIDM GPA even be considered?

Thanks in advance everyone and good luck to you all!!!

@hastilicious

I think you will get in everywhere you apply :slight_smile: your e.c + gpa should get you in fine + you are a non-traditional student. Did you consider applying to any IVY’S?

@Eviity thank you!!! I hope you are right :slight_smile: I assumed that I would not get into an IVY’s due to the fact that my average GPA is less than 3.9. I wish I did apply though, would I really have had a chance? Maybe for grad school. The anticipation is killllinnnggggg me… I still have nightmares about getting rejected from all 4. My employees are all rooting for me, I do not want to be a disappointment to any of them.

@hastilicious

Don’t worry you have phenomenal stats, plus your major isn’t impacted. I think you would of been a great candidate for IVY’S especially UPENN, BROWN, CORNELL, COLUMBIA, DUKE ( they have a special program for non-traditional students). Make sure you share the good news once you get in!

@ hastilicious: I’m sure you’ll get in. You’re in the same position I was. Many years struggling with drug abuse, working 55+ hours a week, climbing the ladder to become an executive etc etc. I’m also 25 and at UCLA now. Good luck! =]

Also regarding your GPA, you can find a GPA calculator online and add in your grades from both colleges you attended, minus the non-transferable ones. Not sure how grades from FIDM transfer into the UC system though.

@USMCtoUC: You’re as good as in I’d say. It pays to be a veteran. I have buddies who went to UCLA after the Marine Corps. and military service helps! Good luck!

Please chance me for UCSC and UCSB! Biology.

-3.06 UC GPA, IGETC completed. All Pre-reqs finished except physics.

@ iDizzle,

Thanks for your input. The suspense is terrible!

@ novaloard2,

Have you seen this? It’s the average statistics (including transfer GPA’s) for UCSB.

[UCSB Admissions](http://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/quickfacts.asp)

Thank you @iDizzle I will let you all know what the results are :slight_smile: Hopefully my business experience sets me apart from all the crazy 4.0 GPA applicants that probably applied to my majors.

@ hastilicious: Don’t worry I’m sure you’re fine. Yeah I didn’t have a 4.0 either but I was hoping to bank on my corporate and life experience and it paid off! I got accepted to 11 of the 12 schools that I applied to. lol. Your major is not impacted either so your good.

@gopackgo555

Don’t worry, your GPA is WAY too high (pardon the pun) for State. They don’t want any smart kids at SDSU it’ll ruin their reputation. Silly honors student, Your GPA is for UCSD, UCLA or UCB.

San Diego Resident

^okay that’s kind of harsh. I have a 4.0 GPA and I got accepted to SDSU. I’m also a San Diego resident. We’ve already established that @gopackgo555 was missing some classes required by SDSU, which is why he didn’t get accepted. I would prefer to go to UCSD, and so I await their decision. However, for a school that is “so bad”, SDSU is awfully popular… Anyway, this board is for Chancing at UC’s, not trashing State schools…
