alright, i think that was a good move personally not including it and yes, i am a transfer applicant.

I’m hoping to receive a letter within two weeks!!! Because two weeks is May 4th, and according to the thread last year, a few people were notified by then.

that is so much earlier than i thought!! I played up to the whole “unique” applicant not sure how well it will go over, incredibly nervous =(

Well, that was like the earliest date (for the College and NHS). MSB and SFS found out a little later.

And I’m sure it went over well. It’s always smart to let the university know what you can bring to their school.

Last year, someone got accepted on April 27th. and the year before that it was April 24th. so people might be hearing back this year by the end of April.

Woahhh that would be in three days!? That is scary.

I’m nervous because I am SUCH a horrible writer (hence why I want to be a mathematics major) so my essays are probably subpar. Hopefully they weigh stats more than essays.

I hope they don’t lol.

this might be a digression but my friend told me yesterday that he met a girl who attended cc for two years then transfered into NYU Stern with a 17_ _ SAT and 4.0 cc gpa. I hope Georgetown is as easy to get in to

Hi Everyone,

I was in your same boat last year, so I know how nervous you all are! I was sure I was not going to get in (I had been rejected the first time) but I was wrong! Good luck to everyone and please try not to stress toooo much. If there is one piece of advice I can give you, it is to seriously think about transferring. I know there are a lot of people who just don’t fit with their old school, but I know there are people out there who (like me) are blinded by how amazing Georgetown seems. Its beautiful and prestigious and theres school spirit and its in DC and everything else, basically its perfect. But what I didn’t realize before transferring is how much I really loved it at my old school. I know this goes against everything you’ve been hearing, but really, its okay not to be at the absolute best/hardest to get into/most prestigious school out there. For me, I left an alright school that had amazing people because I was blinded by how perfect Georgetown seemed. After being at Georgetown for a year, I realized that its really about the experiences you get in life and that your happy, not how prestigious and perfect and exclusive of a school you go to. Even now I love Georgetown in all its Hoya Saxa glory but I still worry that I will never be able to call it home the same way I could my old school. I’m not saying don’t transfer, I know that for some of you Georgetown will change your life. I’m just saying please, think seriously about this decision, listen to your priorities, and don’t worry if staying at your current school will ultimately make you happier.

That being said, I wish you all luck and congratulations to anyone that has already heard! If anyone has any questions about Georgetown and transferring don’t hesitate to ask. I will be brutally honest, I wont lie, but in the end thats what you will really want.

thanks for your candid remarks hoyatransfer. that’s def. that concerns me. but i feel that if i stay, i will always have something inside me that keeps confronting me about not going to Georgetown, and I’m not sure whether or not that will allow me to be happy.

but regardless, i wanted to ask how the academics are at gt compared to your old school. is there a dramatic change in difficulty/competitiveness?

Yes thank you for those remarks. I will absolutely take that into consideration. Can you go more into detail about the classroom and social life at Georgetown. I am in another big city right now and I love the social life but the academics could use some work. What are your fellow peers like?

Would anyone care to chance me for MSB?

College GPA: 4.0
HS GPA: 3.4
Grade: Sophomore (i.e. junior transfer)
SAT: 700V,750M
Race: Hispanic
EC’s: Member of a committee in a business club.

This is directed to HoyaTransfer, or anyone else who has an answer to this question.

First of all, I think HoyaTransfer’s remarks are extremely poignant, and I’ve heard similar remarks from others as well.

My question is: When you were notified by Georgetown about your transfer decision? I know that the website states that we will receive decisions by June 1st, but that seems like a late date (especially for someone in my case, who applied for transfer to other colleges that will most likely send out decisions a few weeks before June 1).

Thanks!

kyle808, if you are accepted you will likely hear back by mid-may. as mentioned earlier on this thread, people started hearing by late april last year. rejections, on the other hand, i believe come later.

I heard back about this time last year, right before finals, so you should be hearing back soon.

As for academics, I went from straight A’s at my old school to mostly B’s, a few A’s here. That being said, I am a biology major, which is a department that has a lot of grade deflation along with requirements such as organic chemisty. From what I’ve heard from my friends, if you put in the work you can easily get B’s, but A’s are a lot harder to come by.

As for the social life, I’m in an interesting situation because I transferred within the same city (I lived in DC last year as well). At my old school, students explored the entire city more, generally went out more, ect. At Georgetown, students stick to the Georgetown area, which is mostly bars that you would need a fake ID to get into. Also, most of the parties students have on campus are not like the college parties you would find at other schools. Most are very exclusive, have expensive drinks, and people get overly dressed up. That being said, the parties they do have (depending on who you know) aren’t that frequent. Its very much so a work hard party hard school in that students will spend entire weekends studying in the library and then the next week go out after all of their work is done (which at Georgetown is not too often haha).

Also, I think another important thing that I didn’t know before I came here is that students are very intense about academics, extra- curriculars and internships. It’s definitely had a positive impact on me (I’ve been more motivated to apply for more competitive programs) but at the same time, it can be a bit overwhelming when you feel like you have to apply for every position that pops up. But this might be exactly what you are looking for. Really, its a matter of where you would best fit in, and I guess what I was trying to share with you all is that while it seems like everyone is telling you to go for the most prestigious school or job or whatever, its really what makes you happy that matters. I know people at my old school who are 10 times more successful than some students here because they are in an environment that works for them and one they can thrive in. I know this may seem silly to you, these are just things I wish people had told me when I was in your same position.

Also, one other thing (I’m sorry I’m kind of ranting!) But for those of you who don’t get in pleaseeee don’t take it personally. I know so many people who applied who had the exact same qualifications and really its just a matter of luck ( I know that doesn’t really help either) But for those of you who do get in even if you ultimately decide to stay and not transfer you should be extremely proud of yourself. As much as it seems like I regret my decision, hearing that I got into Georgetown (especially after being rejected once before) was probably the most proud I have ever been. So embrace that moment and live it up! Because it feels amazing no matter what you decide.

Okay, I’m done! If you have any more questions just ask! And Good Luck!!

yeah that’s what i hear. i think they want to keep A’s to the top 20%. What do you guys think though, a B average at Georgetown? or an A average at a tier one state school?

I think it depends on your career aspirations

anyone know how to get in touch with a specific admission councelor? I read on the 2009 thread that people starting calling to try and get “leaning answers” because they have deposits due to other schools. I have deposits due on May 1.

Any suggestions?

^I want to know that as well. I have to know what to expect because I have countless other things to do. I wonder if they are going to ask me at specifically what school are my deposits due.
