Regents' & Chancellor's Scholarship

I feel like berkeley regents is SO random.

i got a letter for chancellors that says it offsets 75% of in-state fees. that means that it pays for 75%, right? someone told me that it paid for 25%.

what kind of chancellors did you get, wishbone?

did this happen to anyone else?
basically before the interview, the people there said welcome to berkeley, although letters come out 3/31, ppl interviewed today are 100% in.

i got a chancellor's scholarship to ucriverside. it only says that it offsets 75% of "in-state fees".

oh maaan, i wish i read this post thingy earlier. it's 2.45am the night/morning before my interview, and i didn't even know it was a big deal! i was just like, eh, scholarship, eh gotta drive up to LA...DAMNIT.
crapcrap now i'm nervous. i guess ihave to be entertaining on the interview then? be funny? mock-pick-nose? jump around on my head?
sighhhhhhhhhh
P.S. no idea how i got the regent's or how i got into mit and stuff...SATI:1450, SATII: 800/680/740 (YEAH. 680 ON THE WRITING. IM STILLLLLLLLL NOT OVER THAT). maybe i had a good essay? i moved to like four countries in my life and had to learn three languages?
or maybe they just liked my name. since no one else has it. keke....

wait, wishbone, no interview was mentioned, right?

i got a regents from cal, but not from UCSD (the only UC's i applied to). according to my high school consuelor, the scholarships are primarily to coerce California students to stay in the UC system instead of going out of state, by giving all finicial aided needed.

I wouldn't call it "coerce," really. The setting for the interview is very informal, although it's in a large downtown hotel. You get to meet both students and faculty from Berkeley, and they are as down to earth as you can get. The money is not the only attraction, and focus is not even on that. It's the sense of what you can do at Berkeley, and how far you can go. GO CAL!!!!

after going to my interview and talking to the R&C scholars, i'm so confused! I want to go to Berkeley now! ahh...I wish there are 3 of me!!!

hows the interview like? anyone?

i had my interview on sunday and ...yeah, its nothing to worry about....its really just a kick back conversation with a professor...

Anybody else who had the interview already, please post! I have mine tomorrow morning at 10AM (check-in 9), and though Cal isnt my first choice, i still wanna have a confident interview, but I'm not really sure how to prep for it.

dangerous: what do you get as a Cal Regent scholar?

you get all the finincial aid you will ever need for four years, meaning you still have to pay but little to no loans and such, and guaranteed housing for all four years on campus, according to the information that i was given in the mail.

Kev,
its only a short 25 minute thing. They have poured over your UC app already, so just be prepared to talk about anything you haven't explained on there. Its more informational than anything else, mine talked 10 minutes about how great Berkeley is.

just a quick question. Does Cal offer the Regents Scholarship to Transfer students? If they do, when and how do we find out if we got one?

dangerousalibi - usually UCSD just lets you know on the day you get your acceptance letter. It's like, la la la, "OH YEAH! I forgot to mention, you're a REGENT scholar!!!"

that kinda thing.

I can't believe I got it at Berkeley truthfully. It is REALLY RANDOM. I only have an SAT score in the 1300s; it's not that low, but it's no where close to the caliber of most regent scholars. iono why? Maybe my essays? Oh well, I'm not complaining :)

I LOOOOVE Professor Presti now though. He was so funny and nice. I hope I get it. It's an awesome scholarship!!!

Also, to everyone who got invited for the scholarship, you are automatically admitted into the school! They told us that at the interview.

goes to show you that CAL approach to admission is more holistic, which is great because SAT isn't everything.

My son received Regents at Berkeley last year. He is at CAL now and loves it so much. He was accepted at all schools he applied to, getting Regents at CAL helped him in his decision making process. The Regents have dinner as a group at least once a month, they also have a lot of other benefits. CAL is a wonderful school, there is such a buzz on that campus, the students very friendly, the courses outstanding. He never second guessed his decision, there is no better school for him, he is where he belongs.......
