Spring/Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

Hmm, I have no idea @ivanovich lol. I haven’t been admitted yet. Anyone else out there that has been admitted know how to upgrade your ID/make your UT email?

Also, after further investigation, it looks like UT expressly requires you to upgrade your EID in person…?

Yeah, it seems like they need a physical signature.

Or you could do it without going there but it has to be notarized. However, it’s only temporary and you’ll eventually need to do it in person. https://www.utexas.edu/its/help/idcenter/1143

@longhornlegacy Thanks for the info. I might do the temporary upgrade. I’d rather know what I have ahead of time.

Does anyone know when they will send out housing contracts ?

Hey, everyone! I’ve spent the majority of my morning stalking this thread and it seems like everyone here has nice, informative things to say to those seeking details and particulars when it comes to actually being admitted to UT Austin-- so, with that being said, I was curious to know if I could get an opinion on my chances of being admitted? I’ll drop some of my information below!

I’m currently an in-state resident, attending Lone Star College. I would be applying to the College of Liberal Arts for Writing and Rhetoric for my first choice and the College of Liberal Arts for English for my second choice. (Though, that second choice may change to the Moody College of Communication for Journalism. We’ll see.)

Cumulative GPA - 3.75 (Question here! I had to take a few classes that weren’t for college credit in order to catch me up to speed in mathematics-- I scored C’s in those classes, primarily, but I’ve been told several times that those classes don’t count towards my GPA because they’re not for college credit. Counting those classes, my GPA is a 3.45, not counting those classes it’s a 3.75. Does anyone have any information on this? Am I being clear in the slightest?)

Credits completed - 51 credits, but before actually attending UT (if I’m admitted) I will have 60+ credits with an Associate of Arts degree.

EC’s - I spent, easily, 20+ hours per week in rehearsals for theatre productions at Lone Star College. I also work part time within that theatre department under student work study, so really, I spent 40+ hours per week working on productions we put up for the community that are very well received. I’m also a member of Phi Theta Kappa and an editor on the University Park campus literary magazine. Would including these things on a resume be beneficial?

I haven’t taken any SAT or ACT exams, and don’t plan to as I’ll have an Associate’s degree once I transfer. My English/Creative Writing professor offered to write me a letter of recommendation, and I plan to write stellar essays to submit!

What do you guys think? Should I apply? Do I have a chance?

Thanks in advance!

This waiting game sucks, another day without decision

congrat! when did u find it out?

3:56!!! 18th November 2015!!!

@ Amandabru CONGRATULATIONS!
remind us of your profile please.

I got accepted to COLA-Government major with a 3.27 GPA!!! I was skeptical at first about the holistic review but they made me a believer with my acceptance and that my hard work on my essays and some great LoR’s really paid off.

I am an Army Vet with 11 plus years of service that recently retired. My resume consisted of the last 10 years of my work experience with multiple deployments. I also have had plenty of volunteering time this year with a local civic org. in SA as well as a Veterans org. I have been working as in intern for a St Rep here in SA since Sept. Thats basically my Resume.

I worked on my 2 essays for over 3 months starting in March. I sent them both through multiple different people for editing.

I had 3 LoR’s 2 from former Supervisors in the Army who wrote about me as if they love me ( that is the key on a LoR, its better to have someone who has a more personal connection with you that will show in the writing vs someone with a high status and or job title) the 3rd letter was from my Fed Govt prof here at SPC in SA who I had a great time with in her class.

The last year I have been attending St Phillips College here in SA. I have taken 7 classes with 7 A’s. So even though I had that one online school transcript from when I attempted to do school while in AFG, received an F and 2 C’s, I still showed a different projection in my academic trend.

I say all this hopefully to encourage any others who have been looking at this thread and seeing everyones well earned acceptance with 3.6’s and up and thinking to themselves they have no shot! I am here to tell you that you do! The Holistic approach is really taken seriously for I am attending UT in Jan. I hope everyone else the best of luck!!!

@DM1515 - COLA Govt! Awesome! We may be classmates someday! How many credits do you have? I have 60. I should be going in as a junior. How about you?

@DM1515 hey, congratulations on getting in. That’s a tremendous accomplishment! I’ve also applied for government, although I was two hours short of the 30 hour requirement.

I’m kind of stressing about the situation. I would love to go to UT, but I just don’t see it as particularly likely. My GPA I applied with is about a 3.4. I expect to have close to or a little above a 3.5 after this semester. I’ve really worked hard to try to get the best GPA possible this semester, but I just don’t think it will be enough. It seems as though you have to have a 3.6-3.7 above or have a really really good hook to get in. I have some very solid EC’s, but I would imagine most people applying do.

Really, I just wish that they would give a cutoff GPA if that’s what they indeed use. Their site says 3.0 but somehow I doubt that the majority of the 3.0-3.5 people will get in. Those that do are likely few and far in between.

Anyway, sorry for ranting, congratulations on your great achievement!

@GuerreroLonghorn We just might be, I have 55 transferred credits and should end up with 62 by Jan.

@temoc22 Have some faith my friend. I know what your feeling and you can look back at one of my posts to see my frustration as well. My GPA gave me doubts when i started seeing the GPAs of those being admitted. Especially when I saw a few COLA-Govt. admits with 3.8 and 3.9. If you know that you gave it your all with your essays and ECs married with a few good LoR’s then look at my example to see it is possible. Good luck. I hope you get in.

Got accepted with a 3.85 GPA to COLA for Economics
