Best of luck guys! I keep hearing about people with amazing resumes in my locality who’ve applied to stanford, and now I’m super anxious :-S
Thanks, no interview notification yet, is that good news or bad??
@SeaJake You get interviews if interviewers are in the area. So, it’s pretty neutral if you haven’t got the notification at all!
Pretty sure they’ve begun reviewing early applications! My arts portfolio videos were watched on Nov. 7 by someone from California via Slideroom… aka Stanford.
good luck y’all! i’m currently a freshman here heavily involved in music and planning on management science/engineering so pop a question or two if you want to know anything
@violaqueen How do you know your arts portfolio video had been watched?
Good luck everyone!

hi, i’m an international student applying for RD. Stanford has been my dream school since 9th grade, but I kinda lost hope in getting in and just concentrated on UCs, and just recently, for some weird reason, I found myself filling the application form, I mean what’s there to loose apart from money…confidence…pride…dignity… okay there might be somethings to loose if I get rejected, but that’s part of taking a risk for something you love and now i’m blabbing…
@AdaezeU Just apply you know. That’s why I applied. I love the place way too much to not apply and be left not even knowing whether I would get in or not. It’s better to regret something known, than something unknown
@violaqueen Thank you for your information. I thought the SlideRoom provides tracking function. Good luck in your application.
@hellolol thank you, I’m just a tad bit terrified (more like extremely terrified) because they’re very picky especially when it comes to international students and my GPA isn’t so great, I mean compared to others applying. I’m taking my SATs in December, but do you think I can send in my SAT subject test that i’ll be taking in January?
@AdaezeU They say on the website (http://admission.stanford.edu/application/deadlines/) that for regular you can’t. But, they are writing about the SAT. You can e-mail them and ask about the subject tests (though I doubt that would work).
Also, my GPA is fine, but my test scores are not amazing enough to apply as an international applicant to Stanford. I’m extremely terrified too, because results in like, 24 days.
I’d say work really hard on your essays. From what I know, they want to see a human, and develop an in depth understanding of that human (and not many achieve that, according to my country’s regional officer I met at an Admissions information session).
The best you could do is be really proud of at least that part of the application you can control now, because ECs, tests, etc are almost all done.
@hellolol you applied for Early Decision? I wanted to, but my scores wouldn’t have been ready on time. It’s okay, i’ll just have to work extremely hard on my SATs to cover up for the lack of a subject test and my average GPA. I really do wish you the best of luck and hope we both make it, if not, there’s something better out there. Good luck!
@hellolol I would say that the biggest problem in essays is a failure to discuss why the event was personally significant or how it relates to one’s character traits / beliefs. Too many applicants (from my understanding, ~90%) are either subconsciously or intentionally attempting to “impress” admissions officers.
Frankly, I’ve lost most my hope for getting in. They take 5 out of every 100 applicants, and once the URMs, athletes, legacies, and donors have been allocated their spots, I’m probably competing for 3, if not 2, spots out of 100…
Well, what will be will be. They can’t take everyone. At least we’re lucky that we can still get a great education elsewhere.
@LikeThis never give up, there is a chance, a possibility. who said you can’t get one of the three spots? keep believing in yourself, if it’s meant to be, nothing will stand in your way, if not, there’s a greater school out there, but don’t let that discourage you from trying, you won’t know if it’s the one for you if you don’t try.
@LikeThis as an Asian male Stanford student at the bottom of the food chain for college admissions, i feel you. Don’t let the fact that other people who can get in because of what they’re born with get you down!
@AdaezeU Yup! I applied early! Also, they do look at the subject tests, but they aren’t necessary. They don’t add much to their decision making process.
Best of luck to you too!
@1golfer1 True. Most people, before thinking of significance, start writing to try and impress the guys. We do have to impress them, but that should really just be a minor part of the essay ‘editing’ process (making it better formatted, etc…).
And that’s I’m guessing exactly how they remove applicants xD
