I got called. Have an interview this weekend

@nne: Yeah the same thing happened here, I got contacted a week back but y friend still hasn’t been contacted. And we’re in the same school AND she submitted at the same time as me too. You probably just have a different alumni interviewer. :)

I got an e-mail, and it’s taking a painfully long time of back-and-forth emailing to set a date, time, and location.

Still a-waiting an interview for myself :(…

I got called today on my cell phone by some random guy who introduced himself as Sergio from Double Dave’s (a pizza place)… I told him wrong number, he said okay, so I hung up. And now I’m laughing at the thought that he may have been my interviewer, but I’m sure I’m just making stuff up in my head… an interviewer wouldn’t introduce himself as “so-and-so” from “so-and-so” would he? Lol. And I don’t think a Yale grad would work at Double Dave’s… but you never know. Haha, I’m sure I’m just connecting dots where there aren’t any to connect.

Somebody agree with me so I don’t feel like I might have messed up.

It is very unlikely that your Yale interviewer would introduce himself as someone from Double Dave’s pizza. It would be very surprising if an interviewer calling you would not mention Yale, and probably introduce her/himself as a member of the Alumni Schools Committee.

Just to repeat some things that have been said earlier:

The primary variable affecting when/if you hear from an alumni interviewer is where you’re located. The alumni interviewing is coordinated by a different committee in every region, with its own volunteer chair and volunteer members. You’re likely to hear sooner if you live in or near a major city with a large number of alumni volunteers. If there aren’t enough interviewers to cover all the applicants, you might not get an invitation. (Everyone is under a lot of time pressure for the EA applicants because Yale has so little time to make a decision.)

If you don’t get an invitation, that is not a signal and not worth worrying about. The interview is not required and is unlikely to play a decisive role in admissions decisions.

As others have written, the information that the ASC interviewer gets in advance of the interview includes only name, gender, school, contact info, EA or RD, when your applications was received, and your intended major. If the interviewer does her job right, she’ll ask questions that focus on who you are, what you’re interested in, and how Yale might work for you.

Every interviewer will be different (volunteers are a varied lot), but you might get questions about how you spend your time, what your favorite activities or subjects are, which teachers do you like, who are your heroes, what thoughts you have about future major and career, why are you interested in Yale and what would you like to do there, etc. A good thing to think about in advance of the interview is what would you like Yale admissions to know about you that they mighty not learn from your admissions packet; come prepared to communicate that to the interviewer.

@Owlehn - I like what you have written. It, quite remarkably, sums up the state of mind we are all in now.

I applied SCEA, and I just had my interview today. She did not ask me many questions about myself (and the ones that she did ask were very simple/generic questions), so the interview mostly revolved around me asking questions about Yale, her sharing her experience there, etc. I offered a resume, but she declined.

wow, seems like a lot of people had really egocentric interviewers. i’m glad my interview mostly consisted of talking about myself.

i received an email asking if i’d be interested in an interview about a week ago, and replied the next day… but still haven’t gotten any response-email or phone call. anyone else have a similar situation?

@arwenevenstar
My interviewer hasn’t replied for 3 days, and she usually replies in one day (judging from the last couple emails we’ve sent each other). I’m still waiting though…if she doesn’t reply, then I’ll probably send an email asking if she received the last one I sent, and reiterating my previous message.

^ Your friend being a Yale early action applicant? May I ask if you guys are international?

^ Not sure if that was referring to my post, but I’m not international.

@lindaazhang: if that was directed at me, yes, I’m international. And my friend applied SCEA too.

Still nothing from anyone Has anyone in the D/FW area gotten an interview?

@JustASenior: If you don’t mind me asking, what country are you from?
Just wondering as an anxious fellow-international who hasn’t gotten an interview yet.

^ I’m from the UAE.

LOL Owlehn, a Yale graduate working at Double Daves Pizza?

Hmm. I’d like mine with Double Cheese please.

The interview notification comes via email, right?

email or telephone – depends on the interviewer. There’s not a set protocol
