Took a risk and blew it...any hope left?

Truthfully, i think you’re definitely in for UT Austin and probably also in for USC and Georgia Tech! Your stats are really good; GPA is really high, SAT I scores really high, and SAT II scores also pretty awesome! If you’ve got a great essay that would make your chances even better!

Should I…? Oh, what the hell. Bump

Man I think that ur CR score has killed u. I think u can take it once more in Jan.
Columbia-reach
-Cornell-low reach
-Georgia Tech-in
-University of Texas- Austin-in
-University of Southern California-match

Yeah, I know. I’ve always hated CR, but I said somewhere on the last page why I didn’t feel like taking the Jan SAT and letting chance take me from here.

does texas use SAT IIs for considering admission? and btw you’re most likely in…i would really like to know the stats of the 6% OOSers they accept.

I do know that Cockrell (Engineering) requires a Math SAT II, but I think that might be the only SAT II that UT requires.

wow i just checked the common data set…and with the 5% out of state admittance rate…they admit around 600-800 out of state students…i wonder how many apply?..

ok found the stats for OOSer…in '07 they had 4,321 OOS applications…they admitted 1,479 (34% of those who applied)…their average SAT score was 1280 (combined verbal and math). You are in great shape with your score…good luck mate…

-Columbia - high reach (same for everybody since it’s an ivy)
-Cornell - reach
-Georgia Tech - match
-University of Texas- Austin - don’t know much but i would guess high match
-University of Southern California - low reach

Not to insinuate anything negative…but as an applicant from a minority group, you have a much better shot at all of these schools then a caucasian or an asian would (haha, somehow asians aren’t minorities anymore…)

I don’t think you need to beat yourself up about your SAT scores. Your GPA is really up there and your E/Cs are very telling of you as a person, which is a plus :)

Columbia - somewhat high reach
-Cornell - somewhat high reach
-Georgia Tech - good match; very likely in
-University of Texas- Austin - in
-University of Southern California - good match; very likely in

Though the fact the you’re Hispanic and female will tremendously help your chances for your reaches since your intended area of study in chem. engineering.

I think you have a better chance than not at getting into at least one of your reaches.

edit: I misread that you were female, lol…but that fact that you’re Hispanic will still help just the same – but not the female part, obviously.

When I first read female I was like “W T F!?” but then I read the edit. You are forgiven, lol.

Post a link and I’ll chance back! Although I don’t know if I’ll be as prolific as I usually am because I am going out of town, even though I’m already out of town, what would you call that then, a vacation from your vacation??? I love it when I go off on random tangents.

I swear, this will the last time that I bump this thread, over 2000 views and 70 replies, not taking out mine, is pretty impressive. Thanks to everyone who chanced me, and if I didn’t return the favor then let me know! I’ll get to it.

-Columbia - higher reach
-Cornell - reach
-Georgia Tech - match
-University of Texas- Austin - high match
-University of Southern California - high match

Ivies are reaches for most people. U of T will be difficult because you’re in Florida. USC I would have said match, but I feel like they are getting more and more selective.

Good luck!

your hispanic heritage should prove to be a huge benefit. examine your sat scores in comparison to other like groups. that should give you a different view of your scores. i think you have a solid shot at cornell, you simply have to nail your essay.

GT-in
USC-likely…a good place for hispanic students
Columbia-less likely
UT-Austin-more than likely

Shud be in at all felt columbia is a reach n cornell is prob low reach

URM ftw. You’ll get into great schools, don’t worry :).

ur sat’s are still in the high percentiles for hispanics, im the same way for blacks, this will help some

the only thing to hold u back is lack of leadership positions and unique extracurric’s

good luck!!

Oh so you go to Berkley or Tampa Prep.

well, it seems as if you have a good CHANCE…but i cant be too sure. You may/may not get in…it’s too close to tell for me personally.
