Took a risk and blew it...any hope left?

@MetalMeatwad: No.

they are all reaches for you in some way, but i think that you can pull some of them off, your scores dont help but the fact you are a minority, for schools that exercise affirmative action youll be fine

good luck and thanks for the chance!

-Columbia - high reach
-Cornell - maybe, low reach
-Georgia Tech - match
-University of Texas- Austin - match/ definitely in
-University of Southern California - match, very low reach

i already chanced u but u can return the favor if u havent lol im desperate

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/623727-chances-would-appreciated-chances-back.html

Pretty sure I have already…

EDIT- Checked and I already have. 1st page. Sorry I couldn’t help any more.

Your chances at Columbia are better than people have been saying; probably not for Cornell but you never know.

As far as USC, your credentials are great, but affirmative action may actually work against you in SoCal. I still think you’ll probably get in, but it may be something to consider as far as California schools.

You have there some very interesting EC’s, however the SAT scores might lower your chances. In my humble opinion one should have at least a >750 score to be on a good spot.

On the other hand, SAT scores aren’t really CRUCIAL. I mean that if you have an outstanding essay, some grea teachers’ recommendations and perhaps do a great interview, I don’t see why they shouldn’t take you.

IMO, it’s far better to have a very interesting personality rather than have 2400 and be extremely boring. Again, your EC’s look pretty nice, consequently you have a chance.
Best luck !

You definitely still have a chance for these schools!! In everywhere except Columbia and Cornell. However, I think that they’re DEFINITE possibilities. Don’t count yourself out yet! People need to realize that you have a goodchanceat Columbia. As good as anyone elses. My brother works in admissions in Brown(which i say in like every post now cuz it’s important for ppl to know that I have a valid say in the matter) and said the SAT/ACT are the lowest of the low that they consider in admissions. They’re just checking to make sure that you’re capable. Get in the range and you’re fine!

youre definitely in gtech. i dont really know much about the other schools but i wouldn’t expect much from the ivies. i have friends w much much higher stats that got rejected in early decision. you could get into texas if you have a killer application and show a lot of interest.

-Columbia - def. reach
-Cornell - reach
-Georgia Tech - u’ll probably get accepted here – high chance
-University of Texas- Austin - def. match
-University of Southern California - not sure about this…sry

-Columbia - high reach (REJECTED)
-Cornell -low reach/ high match (ACCEPTED)
-Georgia Tech - match/ in (ACCEPTED)
-University of Texas- Austin - in (ACCEPTED)
-University of Southern California - match (ACCEPTED)

If u had applied ED to Columbia, ur chances would have been incredible. a kid in my school (Black URM tho) got in with a 1780 SAT, and 700, 720, 520 SATII’s… (His GPA was really high tho; 3rd in class)

when you say ‘full mexican male’ do you mean you are from mexico (in which case spanish would be your native language) or just that your parents are full-blooded mexican? if you are acutally from mexico yourself, being fluent in spanish is not that big of a draw.
anyway - it seems like only your math I score and ec’s (neither diverse nor plentiful) are your biggest hits. since you obviously cant take satIIs again, play down the math I (especially b/c it is math I and not II), but not by saying you didnt study. probably a bad idea to include that anywhere on your app. compensate and tell more about your music involvement and volunteer work. you have the most hours logged for comm serve i have seen recently on cc (i think), so it seems like that is a passion of yours. if you have specific anecdotes, put those out for college admit officers, too. they stick in peoples’ minds better than stats or boring lists.
idk how you’ll do at columbia. slight reach possible? i wouldnt be surprised if you were right on the edge tho. cornell - pretty much in. ga tech - maybe…hard to say for you right now. UTX austin - i think you’re right there. usc- i think prolly not.
just keep your grades up and get those 200 hrs and i think you’ll have a good time in apr. GL!

You know what? I think you have a very good chance at your top choice schools. I think you will at least earn yourself interviews from the schools - just don’t screw up your interview :)

To OfTheLeet: By full Mexican, it means that my parents are full-blooded Mexican. I did live in Mexico for a portion of my childhood although I was born in the US. Spanish is my native language, although not my primary one, so I still put it there as a skill that I have.

I’d say most likely everywhere except the Ivies. Ivies are hard for anyone, and while your scores are very good, they are not fantastic standouts. This doesn’t mean no, it just means not too likely (but in reality that’s the answer everyone should hear).

You have a good chance everywhere overall, be confident and good luck! =]

I believe you have a good chance everywhere, but Columbia will be harder than the rest (obviously). If your Math SAT2 was much better I would say that Columbia would be around a mid-reach!

Well, I did some thinking, and I realized, ****. I don’t have a single in-state school that I can really fall back on in case of FinAid problems (I qualify for the high-level Florida Bright Futures scholarship) so I decided that I should at least apply to Florida State (I will get in here, or they read the wrong app and denied mine), UMiami (Accepts Bright Futures…unless the wbsite is trying to screw me over), and I contacted Florida to see how much I would be laughed at for submitting an application two months past the deadline lol. Even though pretty much nobody will see this post, can anybody who does miraculously see this chance me for UMiami and FSU??? As always, post a link in your post and I WILL chance you back!

Will update on UF, if they say they won’t laugh at me THAT much and I still have a shot at being considered, I’ll add that to the list

Yes, you can apply Bright Futures to UM. Sorry about UF, but unless you can run the 100m in around 10s, I don’t think they’ll make an exception, but nothing lost by calling. UM and FSU you should be accepted to on your academic merits if you are within the deadline for application. URM is not that much of a draw in Florida (100s if not 1000s of very well qualified applicants).

Well noted, but I feel like a complete traitor if I apply to FSU…huge Florida fan who stayed up until 12:30 to watch the game, and woke up at 5.

Your math will hurt you, esp. since it’s I and not IIc. That said, you might have an okay shot at SEAS at Columbia.
