UC Berkeley Fall 2011 Chance thread

anyway even with the B in chem, i think you have good chance of getting into UCB. for UCLA, im pretty sure they will take you.

Major: EECS (COE)

GPA: 3.88 (could be anywhere between 3.8 and 3.9 after finals)

Pre-reqs: Complete

Recommended courses: Yes and no. There is no articulation at my CC for computer science and electronic circuits, but ASSIST says I should take any intro courses for these that are available, even if not articulated. So I’m taking Beginning C++ and electronic circuits/devices for engineers, which are UC transferable although they are not articulated at UCB.

IGETC: not recommended and not complete.

Personal statements: I think they were just plain average, but other people who read them were very impressed. So I really don’t know what to think :|

Major: Microbiology
GPA: 3.85
Essays: 9/10
ECs: Pretty good. Two hospital volunteer, 100+hrs each. Before i came to America, i had 2000+ volunteer hrs in a community to take care of senior citizens in China. Custom assistant in a online shop now. Cashier, busboy before. Other working experience in China, most of them were during my high school year, i’m not sure those activites from another country will count. Mmeber of Global AIDS Alliance, AMSA, and some other college clubs.
IGETC: Completed
Bad thing: one incompleted major class, actually half, cuz two of my cc classes can be credited for one class in UCB, and i finished one of them.

So what’s my chance?

Applying from UCR
Major: Applied Mathematics
Major GPA: 3.95
Overall: 3.503
Prereqs: Done by next quarter, however still contemplating on taking the equivalent of Math 55 in the winter or spring.
EC: tutoring, honors program, some community service, those are what come out of my head as far as I know :).
Personal Statement: Okay, I guess.

@ hey @Mytime09 I’m applying for AS as well! :stuck_out_tongue: Haven’t ever seen another AS applicant yet on these forums!!!

Anyway can you all please chance me for Cal? Thank you kindly :)

GPA: 3.6
applying from: CCC
Major GPA: 4.0 in 2 classes, finishing last one this fall most likely getting an A. Taking an additional pre-req next spring since I need the units, but this fall I’ve finished the required 3 courses.
extra curricular: 100+ hours of volunteer work over the past year, some clubs and honors program
essays: good
other: I am concerned about my GPA…my grades are mostly A’s but got a C in 2 4-unit classes that aren’t major related (IGETC), and 1 B. I know grades aren’t everything when it comes to admission, though. So I will stay optimistic! lol

Units completed: 30 as of summer, 46 as off this fall.

thanks!

Boysdontcry, may I ask why you plan on transferring from U of M?

Mytime09 and pyoro, I’m an AS major too :)

i made change to my gpa since fall grades are out. also, do i have good chance for UCLA where i applied as aerospace engineering?
Major: M.E. (COE)
GPA: 3.86
Major GPA: 4.0
EC’s: soso.
PS: 7/10
IGETC: No
1 C in intro to comsci class and 1 B in basic guitar class.
as im 3 year transfer, i was able to finish all the pre-requisites by this semester.

It’s hard to say because your EC’s are SOSO, and you got a C. Also Mech Engineering is probably the hardest, if not, one of the hardest majors to get in for the college of engineering. What admission officers will like is your 4.0 Major GPA. For UCLA, I would say you’ll be pretty okay. Chance me if you already haven’t  I’m the OP

ty
haha i did before. i compared your stats with those of my friend who trasfered this year to UCB as comsci major.

Major: Econ/Math (L&S)
GPA: 4.0
Major GPA: 4.0
EC’s: Associated Students (student govt.), school disciplinary board member, tutor, out campaign(er), Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Gamma Sigma, Honors
PS: Strong
IGETC: Yes, but half through AP

@JetLogic, you’re in.

@xcaliberse could you chance me?! seems like you know your stuff regarding transferring to CAL!!
GPA: 3.6
applying from: CCC
Major GPA: 4.0 in 2 classes, finishing last one this fall most likely getting an A. Taking an additional pre-req next spring since I need the units, but this fall I’ve finished the required 3 courses. We are supposed to take 4 pre-reqs but 1 is AS10 only offered at Cal so 3 only at CCC…

extra curricular: 100+ hours of volunteer work over the past year, some clubs and honors program
essays: good
other: I am concerned about my GPA…my grades are mostly A’s but got a C in 2 4-unit classes that aren’t major related (IGETC), and 1 B. I know grades aren’t everything when it comes to admission, though. So I will stay postiveee =)

Units completed: 45, 15 for next semester.

thanks!

Before I’m able to chance you, may I ask what major you’re applying for? It matters.

^^ @excaliberse I am an American Studies/soc major… I applied as AS (completed all pre-reqs) but may switch to sociology if I get into Berkeley, even double major. But to answer your question, American Studies.

Major: Philosophy
GPA: 4.0
EC’s: not a whole lot
PS: ok i guess
IGETC: Will be completed by spring
Major pre-reqs: None offered at my CC, but will be taking the UCLA philosophy pre-req in spring as well as another philosophy class.

Major: English
GPA: 3.91 (Catch - it’s a 3.2 if you include my first semester I did at a CSU and nearly flunked out - extenuating circumstances. But a 3.91 from my CCC.)
Major GPA: 4.0
EC’s: Prestigious journalism internship at a magazine publishing company in the bay area. EiC of college newspaper (set possibly to win an award). Other minor stuff.
PS: Excellent.
IGETC: Done.

Will they look at my cumiliative GPA or just the GPA from my CCC? (I only did one semester at a CSU). Think my EC’s can save my stain of my first semester?

I don’t understand why people keep putting 4.0’s here. Obviously you guys have the max gpa, so most likely you’ll get in more often than not.

Unless you have a circumstance like the poster above. I don’t see the point.

In addition to my previous post,

My grades came in for fall 2010 (all A’s) so my cumulative is 3.91.
For extracurriculars, I have done a research internship at CSUCI and a pre-engineering program at the Port Hueneme Naval Base (NSWC PH D). Those are all the extracurriculars I have.

@xcaliberse since I can’t edit my post here’s an update of stats:

3.53 GPA (man, my GPA dropped fall before transfer :frowning: )
American studies
4.0 GPA in major pre-req
ec’s listed above
thanks…
