I also think today will be the day and people answering phones are either not in the know or have been instructed to say next week or whenever. I’m glad people are defending iceyqueen…7 schools is not too many schools and EA is not binding and can actually be more competitive for her which might even make it harder for her to get into those schools (but sounds like it didn’t). EA is a huge trend now and so many schools are offering it. 7 schools is perfectly acceptable and if you have your act together and can get your apps out early, why not???
preach^^
For those of you saying this is taking long it really is not… Im from Florida and i have not gotten any responses from any other college and this will be my first “acceptance” and i applied early for every single one… And yes theres nothing wrong with applying to alot of schools im pretty sure most of us wanna take the best offer cz theres alot to consider when choosing a college…
Don’t lose hope everybody! Most likely we will hear today because it’s Friday and all! Look at everything in our favor! Be happy people I’ve had so much fun here the past week rofl
alb, ok, you’re right…it says early feb. But its stil early feb…no reason to complain yet. And as for the phone calls…the people who answer are probably secretaries/clericals who don know squat.
Decisions should be by next week. Good luck.
@etroxx and @nickhart it is not about how many schools you apply to…it is about how many you applied Early Action to. You are pretty much expected to attend the school if you are applying Early Action. I know it is not binding, but why apply if you aren’t going to go there? Why spend $100-125 per school to apply? That is a lot of money if you apply to 13 schools! If you work and you make that money and you want to spend it on that, then go ahead. It takes a person 17 hours of work at minimum wage to afford just one of those applications. (after taxes) Just think if everyone did this. Then all schools will be overwhelmed with applications. The process will be watered down. What would happen if you didn’t get into a school. You didn’t even get waitlisted. But other’s just applied cause they want to apply everywhere and they take your spot. Then ultimately, they choose not to go there. You are out of your spot because someone else is being selfish and entitled. That is what I am talking about.
FYI all schools take way more students in forms of acceptances then will actually attend; they take into account that not everyone who is actually accepted will attend; just as those of us applying can’t count on getting into the school of our choice. Its all a numbers game, if you have not realized that.
This is just completely wrong, @oneindianamom. EA is nonbinding for a reason, and there is absolutely no expectation by schools that offer it that the students applying that way and accepted that way are going to choose that school. They hope so, they will entice them to do so, but your view on how this is perceived within admissions offices is just completely wrong. And it also isn’t your job to tell other people how to spend their money. Besides, Tulane offers EA (does not offer ED). The application is also free. So how would that fit into your paradigm? You don’t have to answer that, it is rhetorical. Also, Tulane offers SCEA. True, they know that students applying that way are more likely to attend, but even in that case they fully expect some percentage of those applicants to choose other schools. It is built into their admissions model. As it is for every other school that offers EA and/or SCEA (REA).
Not only is no one breaking any rules by applying to numerous schools EA, they are not even going against any norms of behavior. Just to repeat, every admissions department in the country is aware of how this goes and how these students are correctly taking advantage of what the schools themselves are offering. After all, if what you are saying is true of the behavior that is expected, there would be no reason to offer ED and EA. They would be the same thing, in practice. Yet clearly they are not.
The most expensive school I applied to was Miami, 70 dollars. A couple were 40 and the rest were free. I would like to have options! I think you’re wrong, honestly. Plus, you wouldn’t be out of your spot. There are waitlists and you can be deferred instead of denied. I think you’re just salty because someone “took your spot.” No one takes someone’s spot by applying, they “take your spot” by being better than you. @oneindianamom
MODERATOR’S NOTE
Let’s dispense with the snarkiness please.
And someone working minimum wage can certainly apply for fee waivers, they are not difficult to get. Kind of jumping on what etroxxx was saying, I think the new reality is that students are applying to more schools than ever before (mainly because technology has made it so easy to AND schools are BEGGING them to apply to make themselves look better) and as a result we are going to see more people get in off of waitlists, if not just more people get in overall because the schools’ yields (% of kids that come once accepted) are all going to go down because of this trend. At the end of the day, the students have to do what they can to protect themselves and make sure they get in somewhere they are happy with. Applying to more schools than “necessary” might be the only way to ensure they get in somewhere they are happy. Good luck to everyone today if decisions come out!
This thread exploded… My highest app fees were 80$ there’s no such application that costs 130 dollars lol
@etroxxx No problem, My weighted GPA is around 4.1, unweighted around 3.6 I think? and ACT 32.
When my D applied to colleges four years ago, we had no idea where she might get in, and she was interested in a number of schools that were not quite a “match” for her credentials, so she ended up applying to 14 schools–several reaches, some matches, and a few safeties. She applied EA to all the schools where that was available. She wound up getting accepted to 10 of the 14. We learned a few things from that process so our son, who is in this year’s applicant pool, applied to only 9 schools–still quite a few, but not an unreasonable number. He has his favorites, but he also wants to see where he gets scholarship money (he’s pragmatic like that). Like my D, he applied EA to all schools where that was available. I think that’s a smart strategy to maximize your choices in the end. The schools know about how many applicants will ultimately accept their offers of admission and surely take that into consideration in determining how many to accept. So I wouldn’t worry that someone who isn’t really interested might “take your spot” at a particular school. The admissions committees already account for likely no-shows.
Lol, I know a friend who applied to 17 schools EA, and though it was incredibly stressful for her, I don’t blame/judge her. If you have the freedom to go wherever you want, by all means.
I am a person who has been heavily mentioned on this thread. I am telling you what I am instructed to. I answer phone calls uninterruptedly, it is difficult to keep a positive attitude when I am literally screamed at over the phone. You never know who will see what you post online. Keep that in mind.
I sympathise with nomaloma; who calls admissions repeatedly when they should already know you can’t tell them anything?
Totally agree ^^^
hang up on those twerps nomaloma…you don’t get paid enuf!!!
I guess I agree too…I have come to realize that those people really must be answering many calls on end…I just finished talking to an admissions counselor who just mentioned the same thing.
I feel really bad when I call because of that. I just empathize with the students who are dying to find out from their safety/target school.
