No one here can really chance anyone because we aren’t AO’s. Anyone who does chance you is guessing based on the school’s average SAT and GPA

@KrisNightcore I only got an email, it’s not on my canelink and i didn’t get a letter in the mail.

.

@car2300 what kind of email? Sent to your perosnal email they have on file? When did it come?

@taratarataratara do not worry. same here… defered northeastern & accepted tulane but trusst youll get in to um

Did not apply to Northeastern or Tulane. But accepted into Fordham University.

@Totoros
Great stats - hard to believe no invite. He’s a fantastic student.
It’s the same thing on the Tulane board. High stat kids with deferrals and disappointed. Such a tough process! This is my third and thank goodness last time going through this.

High stats students get deferred from Tulane because they don’t show any demonstrated interest. So Tulane (probably rightly) assumes they are the student’s “safety” school and they are trying to admit students who they think will go

Agreed, but high stats kids on the board told of visiting campus and showing interest, still to be deferred. It’s just getting more competitive all over. I do feel Tulane is holistic in its evaluation and is filing a class through that lens. I hope Miami is holistic as well!

@3monkeys You are correct about high stat kids showing interest being deferred at Tulane and other selective schools. I think showing interest matters, but it’s not a “hook”. In following the threads for schools like UM that are “very competitive” but not quite “elite” what makes me laugh the most is people complaining they did not receive admission when they believed a single statistic in their admission profile guaranteed them admission. Some people think that a 34 or higher ACT guarantees them admission at a school like UM. They believe the day that one score on that one test came thru, their whole world changed forever(It didn’t). Others think that their kids 4.0 UW GPA is a free pass, or their participation in honor society, their being leader of the band, or that their ethnicity coupled with semi-decent stats is a free ticket. When the admissions decisions come out these people are screaming in disbelief that they cannot begin to believe they didn’t get in, or that they didn’t get the money they “deserve”. Hello entitlement! In reality it’s a holistic process that looks at everything and having great stats is the price of admission to have your admissions file taken seriously as a non-hooked candidate.

I agree with the recent post above me. You can’t discret anyone, high test scores and higher gpa isn’t always a ticket into the University. Miami is a great school but u can’t really compare it to Northwestern, Tulane or USC… it’s selective and competitive but it’s moreso related to schools like Boston University, Binghamton, Fordham and others. Maybe in a few years it will be elite but as of now, everyone has some sort of strength whether it be In extracurriculars or academics. Miami isn’t that much of a reach when u compare it to other schools and look at what the school stands for.

Hi guys. I applied engineering EA and didn’t get an email about scholarships… does that mean I definitely am not getting one? SAT 1520, top 2% of class, 11 AP’s, great EC’s…
Accepted into UMich engineering EA and was really hoping for/expecting a scholarship from Miami.
Thoughts?

If you got into Umich engineering I can’t imgaine a situation where you don’t get into Miami without a scholarship. I’m from Michigan and go to the #3 public school system in the state and have friends who got denied to umich with 1590 sat and 3.99 unweighted. I think you are fine. I would not worry until admissions decisions are actually released. Good luck

Do you have to submit the css profile in order to receive merit scholarships from Miami? I applied EA and I’m worried I won’t get a merit scholarship because I didn’t submit the css profile. I did submit the FAFSA though.

Merit scholarships don’t have anything to do with Fasfa or the CSS profile. That is the money that the school offers u directly (based on your grades, gpa, department of study, etc.) regardless of ur financial standing. However, if u want need based money, grants and etc. then u need the Fasfa and CSS in order to get personal aid @antoshk hoped that helped

Thanks @dreamchaser2k18

Just an FYI, they let us know on Jan. 26 last year. You’re going to love it here. Good luck to all applicants this week.

Do we think they will come out today?

I really hope so
