UT austin 2017/2018 Transfer Thread

@jbengineer
they make the decision before they see your spring grades if you have 24 hrs + and all the pre-reqs.

Since you are taking Math 152 and Phys 218 currently, UT will need to see your spring transcript before they can make your decision. They will also readjust your gpa accordingly if needed

@CLATX123 Same hereā€¦ I want to switch to advertising to first cause Iā€™m currently a marketing major (I put it as my second) but I wrote my essays around psychology which I put as first :frowning: now Iā€™m scared they wonā€™t even consider my second choice at all

@hayyu88 So was your first choice advertising or psychology?

@hayyu88 Wait, wait. Had a brain fart nevermind. What made you select psychology as you first choice for transfer?

So if weā€™re a freshman currently, who doesnā€™t have 24 hours as of the Fall 2017 semester but will have 30 hours after spring semester, does that hinder our admission chances any or pose any problem to our application. I am just sorta stressing out.

applied to Moody for PR
3.8 GPA
2 LOR
extensive resume and lots of work/internship and volunteer experience.
15 hours currently
Good essays

@bengeg @paf12339 Added both of you to the list

Why do the people on here have such astronomically high GPAs? Does my 3.8 have no chance for Cockrell?

I have the same question as @aznhunnielover. Iā€™m going to be applying for transfer to the college of education in the spring of 2019 for early childhood education but my GPA right now is a 3.0 due to a crappy math class last semester. do I have no chance? UT is my dream school and I have no idea what Iā€™m going to do if I donā€™t get in. I donā€™t really have an ECā€™s and I havenā€™t done any volunteer work but Iā€™m starting some soon. Will have all my pre-reqā€™s done by the end of Fall 2018 semester. Kind of freaking out if Iā€™ll get in or not

@awesomesaucee Hi ! can I be added to the list ?
COLA- Government major/3.7/28 hours/2 LOR/VERY strong ECin HS /Strong resume/two legislative internships(Senate and House)-about to become permanent. decent essays

So, Iā€™ve seen some things on here pertaining to my situation, but Iā€™m still not 100% sure. I applied to externally transfer into UT CNS as a bio major for Fall 2018. 4.0 GPA as of last semester, this semester looks like itā€™ll be the same (Iā€™m a bio major at my current school. Which is a private four year university in Texas). excellent 3 LOR. Good essays. Decent resume. Iā€™ve been pretty involved as far as being in clubs and volunteering. Fall semester I was on the womenā€™s soccer team at my current university. I had 21 hours last semester (including AP credit) and will have 38 after this semester (I am a freshman). So theyā€™re waiting for me to send my spring transcript to fulfill the hours requirement. I fulfill all the requirements to be competitive on the website except for one: I have yet to earn credit for calculus. Mainly because here its listed as a sophomore level course and it didnā€™t fit into my class schedule in either semester. I am going to try to take it over the summer before the fall. Do I have a good chance or will they probably reject me because of the calculus thing? I also put Anthropology in COLA as my second choice major, if that means anything. I also put that Iā€™d like to do pre-med (which Iā€™m also doing at my current university). UNT is my backup if I donā€™t get in.

Sorry for the long-ish text, Iā€™ve just been really stressing.

@awesomesaucee Could I be added to the list as well, please?
I applied to CNS for Biology ā€“ 37 hours, 3.87 GPA, good essays and resume, 100+ volunteer hours, no LOR.
Thank you!

So, Iā€™ve read through some situations on here that pertain to mine, but Iā€™m not 100% sure. So here it goes:

I applied for external transfer into CNS as a bio major for Fall 2018. Iā€™m currently a bio major freshmen at a private four year university in Texas. I have a 4.0 GPA as of last semester with 21 hours (with AP credit). Theyā€™re waiting for me to send my spring transcript to fulfill the hours requirement. After this semester Iā€™ll have 38 hours and my GPA looks like itā€™ll about the same as last semester. 3 excellent LOR, decent resume, good essays, I was on the womenā€™s soccer team last semester (if that means anything?), Honors Program both semesters, and have been pretty involved with clubs and volunteering. I meet all the requirements to be competitive on the website except Iā€™ve yet to take calculus. Mainly because at my current university itā€™s listed as a sophomore level course and it didnā€™t fit into my schedule for either semester. i plan to try to take calculus over the summer before the fall. Do I have a good chance or will they likely reject me because of the calculus thing? I also put that Iā€™m interested in doing pre-med and my second choice major as Anthropology in COLA (also if that means anything?). My backup is UNT.

Sorry for the long-ish text, Iā€™ve just been really stressing.

If Calculus is a pre-req for CNS Biology, and you donā€™t have the Calc credits by the time ur app is in review then ur app is automatically not considered. UT stresses that all applicants must have all the required pre-reqs to even be looked at for admission.

According to the senior advisor I spoke with, you only need to be calculus ā€œready,ā€ which basically means that if you are in calculus I right now, youā€™ll be fine because you are beyond the ā€œreadinessā€ requirement.

If I remember correctly, Biology does not have any ā€œprerequisites.ā€ There are only recommendations to be followed. Read up on it here: https://cns.utexas.edu/students/future/external-transfer#competitive-admission-standards

See, Iā€™ve read on the website already about the ā€œprerequisitesā€ and how theyā€™re recommendations. Iā€™ve called the admissions people to get advice on what I should do and they just said to be the most competitive to follow whats on the site, which wasnā€™t much of an answer. Everyone says different things on whether itā€™ll hurt me or not. Iā€™ve heard it might be okay, or that its an auto-reject, or that they might give me temporary acceptance upon completion of calculus, or that I just need pre-cal and Iā€™m pretty confused/uncertain. @stoppingtheworld if you what you say is true then I guess Iā€™ll be okay.

@Rose45 I think youā€™ll be okay if you are in pre-calculus. I donā€™t think theyā€™ll automatically reject you. But yes, those who have all their calculus completed will be most competitive and it goes down from there.

Stay positive, youā€™ll know for sure soon enough!

@stoppingtheworld Thank you for your response. Iā€™ll do my best

Hi guys, I was hoping to see if someone could chance me. Iā€™m going to be applying for Spring 2019 transfer into the College of Education.
At the end of Fall 2018 semester Iā€™ll have 47 transferable credits and all of my pre-reqā€™s are included in that.
I currently have a 3.0 GPA due to a crappy math class last semester but Iā€™m hoping to pull it up after this semester.
Iā€™m taking honorā€™s classes at ACC this semester and next, donā€™t know if that helps me or not.
I donā€™t have an ECā€™s or Volunteer hours yet, but Iā€™m starting some volunteer work mid-may.
Have not written my essayā€™s yet or gotten LOR, but have 2 people who I believe would write me good LORā€™s.
Please let me know if I stand a chance, getting discouraged and freaked out a bit

Hey yā€™all. Was wondering if yā€™all could chance me. I applied for the Fall 2018 semester. 1st choice Public Relations. 2nd choice Economics. Transferring from HBU. 41 total hours. Only 38 transferable hours. Only 32 hours that go towards both choice majors. Total GPA of 3. Transferable GPA of 3.157. And major specific GPA is 3.375. Great essays. 2 great LORs (one from a lawyer and former Secretary of State of Texas). 100+ volunteer hours. Currently working in public relations/ business for 4 years now. I know itā€™s a long shot but Iā€™m really hoping I get in. Iā€™ve alreay been accepting to UT Dallas school of management and University of Houston Bauer school of Business. Thanks yā€™all!

@Zeoxys
So I just looked at the UT website and apparently it actually does count as having the prerequisite if it is in progress
