I’m going to email the technical folks about your status pages and see if something is going on with those mid-year reports. They probably won’t see the email until Tuesday, though. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about, but I’ll let you all know what they say.
@collegeforme2019, if you are a student, I hope you get in and we can meet at Days on the Lawn. The hipster comment is priceless and everyone here who saw it got a laugh. I’m way too old and my taste in music is far too good for the hipster label.
I started posting 10 years ago because this forum was full of bad information. These days, I don’t chime in very much at all. I barely checked in this semester…which should tell you that I’m not here for PR purposes. If I start posting on SnapChat or YikYak, you can definitely call me out, but I’ve been blogging and posting on Twitter and Instragram since before students were using any of those things in a big way.
If you work in education and you see students worried about something, you chime in and try to help.
If my posts on social media are causing you angst, by all means unfollow me and stop reading my posts!
I know it probably means nothing, but just because I’m stressed (and I’m sure a lot of you are too), if your SIS account no longer asks for a midyear report, can you post stats (so we can try to figure out a probably non existent pattern)
But if you weren’t accepted or deferred wouldn’t they not need your mid year grades? So is having it a good sign or a bad sign does anyone actually know before it turns into something super anxiety-inducing?
I’m not trying to prove one way or the other, but in all honesty, if it did mean something, I don’t think Dean J would just say “well yeah that means you got accepted” lol.
She said on CC that she’ll ask the tech department, but she expected a response on Tuesday.
Edit - according the to tweet, she asked the tech department, with no response…
“Some students on a forum mentioned that and I said I’d email the tech folks. I don’t think it’s anything about which to worry.”
Something similar happened with Yale in that when people logged into their accounts the day before decisions, there was a banner that said “Welcome, Class of 2019” or something like that, but decisions had not yet been posted. Everyone in the Yale discussion thread was talking about what this could mean, but then concluded that this was an html thing and everyone had it (even had CS majors confirm it), so it meant literally nothing. However, when I logged into my account, I didn’t see that banner. I also ended up being rejected the next day. Keep in mind that Yale only rejects about 20-25% early and defers the rest that aren’t accepted, so it’s very possibly that since everyone else in the thread who commented had seen the banner, they were all either deferred or accepted. I do think that sometimes these little things have some significance.
So, I’ll post my stats so we can actually try to speculate. Mid-year grades are showing up in my to-do list. I have 2250/4.0 in-state with good but not amazing extracurriculars/awards, no hooks, well written essays but kind of irrelevant since they were some of my first essays and I didn’t really know what I was doing.
