UW Madison Fall 2016 Transfer Thread.

I got into the college of engineering for electrical engineering with a 3.2 college gpa, 3.95 hs gpa and 32 on act with a bunch of activities. Congrats everyone!

@TranferMinn your High school stats I think definitely put you over the edge. Congrats

Yay! Congratulations! @TranferMinn

@MadwthanE have any backup schools? I have 2 but they’re both OOS and VERY far so idk if I’ll go, just maybe stay here and apply again. If you have backup schools of equal caliber then I don’t know for sure. If you’re dead set on Madison go ahead. It’s surprising you were denied, I’d try actually emailing admissions in order to find out the reason behind your denial, that’s worked for me. Write a strong statement, explaining your credentials, and maybe ask them instead “how can I improve upon my application?” Rather than “why wasn’t I accepted?” Good luck.

Okay thanks!yeah I have backups but I’ll probably just stay at the community college I’m at for 1 more year. I called them yesterday and they said it’s because I didn’t take enough math classes which I guess is true but currently at my college my major is liberal arts so I don’t need a lot of math, just the 5 credit requirement @Natalie278

@MadwthanE that’s a very strange response. If you’ve taken a math course that fulfills the requirement I don’t see why they’d have issue with that. I had taken only 1 for my major, and they actually encouraged me NOT to take another math. Seems strange to me, not sure what to say.

Right? I thought so too! And online it even says that transferring credits for math and science can be very difficult and if they are transferred they will probably be electives? I will probably call again and hopefully get a different person:)

@MadwthanE I wish you luck. I’m going to try and appeal anyways, just because it can’t hurt, and if I had gotten a 3.9 with 14 credits I probably wouldn’t, but with 21 I think I may have a case. Also I didn’t state much as to why I really wanted to go and what I would take advantage of as a student of the university.

Yeah it can only help! Good luck!! Hope it all works out:) @Natalie278

I’m surprised you got denied! You seem like a really great student. It’s not the end of the world. Go with your alternative University and maybe apply to UW for grad school? Either way you will do great things. Keep your motivation going. @Natalie278

@nkeshvala I really appreciate all the support you guys have given me  unfortunately the university I was admitted to I do not fulfill requirements for my major, so I’m admitted to a different one. That means taking courses that don’t go towards my desired major for a semester, but at least I leave my current one. I’ve applied to two more schools, but they’re very far away. If I don’t end up having the courage to move such a distance, I’ll try again in the Spring.

Not exactly sure how many of my professors that I asked to submit a letter of recommendation actually did, but I saw one of them recently sent one… Ideally if everyone who said they would did I should have 4 LOR. Which should help when I am finally “unpostponed” in a few weeks here…

ironically all 4 of them earned their PhD in Madison, but I didn’t realize that until this weekend

looking back at my application essay, I’m actually proud of what I wrote. Regardless of if I get in I love my alternative choice and happy to be admitted there!

Just for future reference: talked to an admissions counselor a few days ago. Residency is not a large factor in admission decisions for TRANSFER students. Not to say it doesn’t have any influence, but much less compared to freshman admissions.

well that’s an interesting perspective to take… I just enrolled in classes at Whitewater while I wait for them to get back with a decision… the WI School of Business said they’ll begin reviewing my application if I am admitted there. Regardless I love both universities

They said they’ll get back “by the end of June,” because I just saw the deadline to self-report grades is June 3rd so they’re probably waiting until then to begin looking at postponed applications

@nkeshvala if you are part of the guaranteed transfer system (which I believe you mentioned before) and you’re cumulative is a 2.8 or higher with >2.0 this spring semester, you’re in.

Accepted!

Denied, even with my final semester grades in.
