@CAmom01 maybe there’s still hope for CBS as some accepteds decline their offers. Congrats on him getting admitted - not surprised at all on the outcome. His stats were certainly good enough for CLA.
Thanks! Really, truly after reading last year’s threads I thought he was a goner due to that slow start in HS. Will be sending in mid term grades and updated GPA. Specifically, your post about next year’s applicants take note…Wish DS had read that in 8th grade!
So my son applied to Chemical Engineering as first choice major (in CSE) with Material Science as 2nd choice (also in CSE). UMN portal says he is admitted, but into CLA??? I am all confused. Anyone knows what this means?
He didn’t get his first choice college of CSE, but they still admitted him to the University into CLA… This is what happened to DS. He is waitlisted for CBS, but admitted to CLA. CLA was listed as his second as he could do Chemistry or Bio within that school, so he has still has a science option.
I don’t get it. My son did not list any interest in a CLA major, and there was no mention of waitlisting on the UMN portal. Could it be a mistake by admissions?
@Bay_blade2000 I would call admissions directly on Monday (or have your son do it) and ask. I’m sorry he didn’t get into CSE. Or you could just send an e-mail. We’ve e-mailed a couple times and they were back to us within a couple days. I think that is weird too for someone who did not list CLA as a choice.
Is the U of MN high on your son’s list? Some people do come into CLA and successfully transfer into CSE or CBS by successfully completing some of the freshman sequences with a good GPA.

Also waiting to hear from the UMN College of Design, D applied just after early action deadline on 11/6 so with her luck they won’t give her an answer until March

@bubblytaco Well I wish you luck. I applied to CLA and my stats are borderline. I’m worried I’m going to get rejected / deferred as well. Would you say your stats are borderline for CEHD?
My son just got deferred this morning from Carlson. Out of state; 3.4uw at a very rigorous HS; 31 ACT; most of his time focused on running his photography business and soccer. But got into his top choice last night…Montreal here he comes. Best of luck to all!

@JBStillFlying Actually Concordia. Still waiting on McGill (which is where his brother is a student). But over the last few months he shifted to Concordia. He wants to go into video game marketing and the workload at Concordia is more in line with an internship during the school year. He should hear from McGill by the end of February…but if I were a betting man he will be at Concordia in the Fall.
Canadian schools can be hard to get into. So kudos to both your sons!
